Green Party candidate Heidi Cornish described a convicted murderer as having “a good sense of right and wrong”. She gave a glowing character reference in court for Luke D’Wit, who poisoned elderly couple Carol and Stephen Baxter with fentanyl, then planted a fake will to take over their business. D'Wit had gone to elaborate lengths to ingratiate himself with the Baxters, accompanying Mrs Baxter on walks and making her healthy smoothies at the couple's home in West Mersea. He even posed online as a doctor in the US, offering Mrs Baxter medical advice and support with a health condition, all the while lacing her drinks with drugs that were making her more unwell. Cornish, standing for the Greens in Colchester, has known D’Wit for 14 years and told jurors he “loves to be involved where people need him”. The Baxters’ daughter said she was shocked to see Cornish selected. Tories slammed it as “serious questions about their judgment”. Heidi Cornish, who is standing for Colchester City Council, was a character witness for Luke D'Wit at his murder trial in 2023, saying he had a 'good sense of right and wrong'

I do not accept the claim that Keir Starmer is a liar. He is not. I have known him to be serious, measured, and guided by a strong sense of public duty. We must challenge one another robustly on policy, but do it in a way that strengthens public confidence not erode it

The scrutiny now begins of @NHSEngland @NHSNotts NOTE: Elias Calocane & Celeste Calocane will be questioned mid next month (the father atm has put in a request to not be able to attend for medical reasons - we have grave concerns re his absence). 🙏We welcome as many to continue to comment and follow as possible. It’s good news that the Strait of Hormuz has now reopened. This must be a long lasting and workable solution, without tolls or restrictions on routes. Today we announced our joint plan with France and other international partners to protect freedom of navigation. We need to see a return to peace and stability, and a permanent ceasefire.
