George Washington basically stood there, arms folded, going, “Guys—seriously—no political parties. It’ll be a dumpster fire.” We heard, “Hold my beer!” and cranked out donkeys, elephants, tea parties, coffee parties—heck, we’d form a guacamole party if we could. Moral of the story: Telling Americans “Don’t” is like giving them fireworks and a lighter

@RepThomasMassie Will you call former Trump DOJ officials (like Makan Delrahim) to testify on their 2018 forced divestiture of Fox RSNs? Those networks also collapsed into bankruptcy

Biden took the unprecedented step of using the Dept. of Transportation AND the DOJ to block a merger of JetBlue and faltering Spirit. That block and high fuel prices have led to Spirit’s demise. Here I am in 2023 grilling Sec. Buttigieg about the block: m.youtube.com/watch?v=IC-eRF…

@FDJT256754 @cturnbull1968 Spirit was profitable until 2019, and so was JetBlue. You're labeling them as unprofitable companies now, but that's hindsight. At the time of the merger decision, the available data showed both airlines had strong pre-pandemic track records.

Again, someone explain to me how combining two poorly run, unprofitable airlines was ever going to be successful? Those two airlines haven't been profitable since before the pandemic. Lastly, a federal judge, appointed by Ronald Reagan, was who ultimately sided with the DOJ.

Secretary Dumb Dumb, Please explain how there would have been any more or less competition with a merger than there is now. Were you under the impression that Jet Blue was going to keep Spirit exactly the same? It would have been rebranded and gutted. Nobody is this stupid.
Secretary Sean Duffy@SecDuffy

🚨 THANK A DEMOCRAT 🚨 JOE BIDEN AND PETE BUTTIGIEG bragged about blocking the JetBlue–Spirit merger… The very deal that could have SAVED Spirit Airlines THE RESULT: ❌ LESS COMPETITION ❌ CUSTOMERS SCRAMBLING ❌ EMPLOYEES LOSING JOBS YOU CAN’T MAKE THIS UP

I don't know, but it's better to have one good low-cost model competing against four than two crappy ones that will go bankrupt. They said the top four control 75%, which might be true, but the low-cost models weren't really competing with them. That's what Warren missed. They were competing against JetBlue.

Spirit Airlines has ceased operations. Thanks to Elizabeth Warren & the Biden admin, consumers will now have fewer flights & higher fares. Heritage’s @RealEJAntoni warned about this 2 years ago: heritage.org/transportation… Socialism always delivers the opposite of what it promises.
Elizabeth Warren@SenWarren

I've warned for months that a @JetBlue-@SpiritAirlines merger would have led to fewer flights and higher fares. @JusticeATR and @USDOT were right to stand up for consumers and fight against runaway airline consolidation. This is a Biden win for flyers! apnews.com/article/jetblu…

so you're telling me spirit airlines was in trouble, knew they had to do something, and attempted to participate in the free market by allowing jetblue to acquire them. the government then stepped in and said, “no, you’re not allowed to participate in the free market, " denying the acquisition. so then spirit, knowing that they were about to fail, seeks a government bailout, only to be told, "no, you must participate in the free market” to which they were denied participation in. this doesn’t seem like free market capitalism to me.

Yeah, yeah, Bush left Obama with gas at $4 and a deficit at 9% of GDP. Obama handed Trump gas at $2.15 and a deficit at 2.5% of GDP, which was manageable. You could see it slowing down on the graph. Then Trump skyrocketed it. I'll give you Biden as a consolation win, but Trump is terrible

Former Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene🇺🇸
If you want to know why your dollar is losing its value and you can’t afford life read the post below. BOTH Republicans and Democrats did this together. And did you know that in just 6 years Social Security will be insolvable? That means most of you won’t ever receive a SS check even though you pay 6.2% of every single one of your paychecks into the system. And Trump’s war on Iran is going to blow up this debt even worse and could damage our economy beyond repair. It has already cost nearly $30 billion and it is about to escalate. Honestly who is there to vote for at this point?
Hedgeye@Hedgeye

🇺🇸 Here's what $39 trillion in debt really means: If we confiscated every dollar of U.S. corporate profit ($3.8T/year), it would take over 10 years to pay off. Sell every ounce of gold ever mined: $32 trillion. Still $7 trillion short. Liquidate every Bitcoin in existence on top of that: $33.5 trillion. Still $5.5 trillion short. If we confiscated every dollar of federal tax revenue ($5.3T/year), it would take over 7 years to pay off, assuming zero spending. The debt is 71% of every home in America, or 30% of every publicly traded company on Earth. The debt grows by $7.2 billion a day, or $84,000 a second. This is a problem.

California has a balanced budget amendment. I don't agree with Democrats' spending, but in 2016, Trump campaigned on lowering taxes just as we were starting to recover. He inherited a strong recovery, pushed through tax cuts, got barely any extra growth, and doubled the deficit going into COVID. You can't have your cake and eat it too. He claimed the cuts would pay for themselves, but he pushed the deficit from a manageable 2.5% of GDP to 4.5% before COVID. Gas went from $2.15 to $2.80. The fact is, Democrats wouldn't have wrecked our budget the way Republicans just did. Running these kinds of deficits is a choice.

1. Don’t be dumb. Look at cities around the US. Look at California. Look at Biden’s term. Uniparty “Republicans” have failed us by not delivering small government, but democrats have literally zero limit on spending. Chicago doesn’t even have a budget. California spends like maniacs. I’m pissed at Trump for his big beautiful bill, but I’m far more pissed at democrats and rinos that oppose any and all government reduction. Since 1950, we’ve increased spending per person by 7x (and that’s adjusted for inflation). Have things got more fair? No. 2. I saw your comments about Obamacare. It’s as simple as this….anywhere you see unfairness in our economy, ask yourself “why isn’t competition correcting this?” If hospitals are price gouging, why isn’t everyone starting hospitals? Sounds like a fantastic investment. Competition doesn’t correct the healthcare industry because the government is in the way. Regulations, government grants…..we simply don’t have honest competition because it’s impossible to enter the market.

The Fed expanded the money supply by nearly $9 trillion under Powell. Inflation has averaged >4% per year over the past 6 years. Powell's explanation? It was nearly all due to rolling “supply shocks" over which the Fed has no control. The truth: this inflation was made in Washington as it always is - from too much government borrowing/spending and too much government creation of money.

The more I think about it, the more I believe the answer is red for America. If it were just Americans voting, I'd probably go blue. We share enough context to maybe pull it off. But 8 billion people globally? Red isn't selfish, it's just honest about what large-scale coordination actually looks like.

interesting how completely the conversation has shifted to kids. initially, most people assumed we were talking about adults, not babies smashing buttons, which kind of breaks the thought experiment. that this is all we’re now discussing implies blues understand they were wrong.
notsoErudite@notsoErudite

Since everyone was very curious my answer, my answer is obviously blue. Gotta save the naive, the kids, the blue lovers, and the principally hope-pilled people. You red button pickers need therapy.

@HeresTheRant @pstudeba8 @charliebilello Oh. So my insurance going up several thousand percent starting exactly when Obamacare started is just a weird coincidence for "other reasons". By that logic, it's just a coincidence that oil prices have gone up since the Iran invasion, there are "other reasons". Cool.

@Appipolilogies @pstudeba8 @charliebilello Obamacare is only a small part of the insurance market, and that’s not why healthcare costs are skyrocketing. Sure, Democrats could have used better messaging, as prices generally don’t deflate.

@HeresTheRant @pstudeba8 @charliebilello Lol OK, so Obama saved me $250/ year in gas (the fracking boom happened despite him not because of him, but that's another conversation), but my health insurance is up $25,000 a year and he raised my taxes 10% and its a win? Liberal math is fun.

They’d make it ten times worse, derp. Obama left this guy with gas at $2.15, grocery in deflation, and a deficit-to-GDP ratio of 2.5%. In three years, he reversed all of that—gas was close to $3 going into COVID, and the deficit hit 4.4%. “But they’ll make it ten times worse.” – I’m a Republican.

@charliebilello As a conservative, this is one of the points that we MUST call out Trump over. He’s only expanded our budget and deficit. Don’t get me wrong, I’d never vote for a democrat…they’d make it 10x worse. But it’s ok for us to hold Trump accountable.

@SenRandPaul Reminder: Obama left Trump with gas at $2.15 and grocery prices in deflation, both of which reversed within a year. If it weren’t for COVID and oil prices going negative, gas prices have gone up every year Trump has been in office.

So many Americans can't afford to fill their gas tank fully. This inflation is a real, pressing concern hitting the American people where it hurts. It's a brutal reminder of why we need to address the national debt and avoid foreign entanglements. The biggest threat we face is within, not without.
