@Mark_A69 @TfL @MayorofLondon @wandbc Sure, Queenstown road for Chelsea bridge is now 2 lanes instead of 4 in order to put in cycle lane. Albert is closed due failure to weight restrict. The ped/cycle bridges they promised are funded, but unbuilt. At peak hours Battersea is unusable

@Mark_A69 @TfL @MayorofLondon @wandbc They get jammed at the 2 lights. When it opened they only gave 10s/120sec greenlight to go north on the bridge. They've reduced that as least. What I mean to say is that it's intentional design, not just incompetent accident.

It's be far easier to turn right into Sleaford Street if cyclists actually stopped on red at the jct betwee Battersea Park Road and New Covent Road. 🤷‍♂️

This is the the one thing the anti-cyclists screamers constantly forget. If you roll through a red traffic light at 3mph while sitting on a bicycle, you have committed an offence. But if you get off the bicycle and walk it through a red traffic light at 3mph? Not an offence.

@longersby It was designed for horse drawn busses and wagons though & was retrofitted several times, incl. after 5 millennium to take cars. The total weight is far less than in the 1980s. The increased weight limit has caused damage by electric cars to the panels, but it is relevant?

@HiksterBat It literally was never designed for motor vehicles, let alone the weight or volume of traffic it got. The fact it had four traffic lanes in no way changes that, and subsequently the lane reduction and restrictions had to be put in to protect it.

It's ironic that a council who ripped out cycle lanes has had to turn a flagship bridge into cycle and pedestrian only. The closure has been a long time coming: as for Hammersmith, Albert Bridge was never meant to take this amount of vehicle traffic. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

@thetimes Fun fact:. When Clapham Junction was commissioned it was thought it was better to call it Clapham Junction because it’s was a much more affluent area. Actually it’s in Battersea. Its lack of underground connections also has some interesting history behind it.
