It's been a while but I've updated the ol' blog on my book collection. Here's all the new and old LOI related books that I've bought the last few years, all categorised with my complete Irish football library at the bottom. Shamrock Rovers score 5 goals in a European game for the first time, become the first LOI club to go through a round after a 2 goal first leg deficit, and Graham Burke is now the highest LOI goalscorer in European competition with 15

Hear me out: FIFA should let every team on Earth into the World Cup -Start with geographically based groups -Spread the matches out over 2.5-3 years -Have the top 32 or 48 teams from those groups meet in a single country for one last tournament to determine the winner Thoughts?
The New York Times@nytimes

From @TheAthleticFC: Gianni Infantino said FIFA will examine expanding the World Cup by a further 16 nations to a 64-team tournament ahead of its next edition in 2030. The 2030 tournament will be spread across six nations and three continents. nyti.ms/4bjW73o

I know that Peter Collins isn't actually a robot. It's just a conspiracy theory of mine. But evidence is mounting that Cunningham has been programmed to say mad stuff
RTÉ Sport@RTEsport

Kenny Cunningham criticises Lionel Messi's performance at the tournament so far "I wish he had retired after that World Cup" "That's why I haven't watched any of the Argentinian games live" Watch all 104 games from the #FIFAWorldCup on RTÉ

It's not often I think about Samir Boughanem, a French-born Moroccan midfielder who made 14 appearances in the League of Ireland for Rovers in late 2003, is now 50 years old and just left his job as manager of a fourth tier Swiss club. But tonight, I will.

Today marks 32 years since Brazil played the Netherlands in the World Cup quarter-finals. Before the match, the BBC used the opening credits from ‘Dallas’ to create one of the greatest football intros of all time. Absolutely glorious. 🇺🇸

@Michaelshine2 @dvehendo That was certainly the closest to the quarter finals but in modern terms Shelbourne 2004, and Drogheda were the with of a post from the same round in 2008

@HistoryLOI @dvehendo What is the furthest any #LOI club has gone by your records Karl and in all previous competition names of the top one. Is it possibly Dundalk in 1979 making the last 16 of the EC? Obv diff set up back then.

The League of Ireland (31st) is the highest ranked association that still hasn't had a club in the Champions League group stage. Next is Iceland 33rd and Bosnia & Herzegovina 34th

Enjoyed reading through this earlier upstairs in Mo Chara when waiting on a friend @brandnewretro I’ve only glimpsed through it. Looking forward to reading more. Some brilliant magazine articles. And one for you @ConMurphySport -1977 match programme. @gerrytastic also.

Cape Verde: simply one of the greatest World Cup stories ever. I've rarely admired a team so much. They did not understand fear and were entirely comfortable in their own skin. They went toe-to-toe with the world's best - and on their own terms. Audacity, bravery, skill, the lot.

@HistoryLOI Not sure in terms of other competitive games. There was a whole load of notable friendlies at time against English clubs who sent full teams over. 0-0 against Man Utd, 0-3 against spurs (Lineker and Gascoigne scoring), Leeds, Man City and even a 2-0 win over Celtic.

Cork City fans of a certain age, wondering if you can help me on this - were the 1991 games against Rovers and Bayern Munich the only competitive games they ever played at Musgrave Park? And were there any notable football friendlies held there?

Bohs are the first League club to win a FAI Cup tie without beating their opponents on the pitch since Sheriff were expelled after their win over Shelbourne in 2011. Most recent walkovers involving League clubs - Finn Harps W/O Kilkenny 1999 and Killester W/O Dublin City 2006
