I'm guessing this interview wasn't picked up by Irish media because the Dubliner interviewed, Dean, was sadly misinformed on voting rights. He says "If I could vote I would vote but I can't" 😩 All Irish citizens can vote in elections, maybe nobody told him how to do it. /1

@HitchRoc @dreadnugget @Care2much18 They are heavily restricted for Dail elections (try and get one and see how far you get). But they are the norm for Seanad elections. So there is no technical/legal reason why not. Issue is political parties don't like it.

@Care2much18 "Every adult Irish citizen can vote, including those struggling in life." Ireland is one of a handful of countries in the world where this is not true. Famously a party leader couldn't even vote for herself in this election. Hundreds of thousands are denied the right to vote.

@ramendik @Care2much18 No, you need to be a resident of the country - this includes homeless in Ireland, but if you're living abroad you're out. That doesn't stop people coming home to vote sneakily because they never took themselves off the register in their mammy's house

@Care2much18 Question: does this mean that any Irish citizen living abroad, and thus normally not being able to vote, could use the pick-up service and vote anyway as long as they come to Ireland for the voting? And does this allow them to choose any constituency?
