The most important building in the world, housing the most important person in the world is old and tired. It badly needed renovation 30 years ago when I was there. The building is as old as our nation’s history. The wings were added later. They’re old and collapsing as well. The Military Aide’s bedroom is in the PEOC and it is below standard for an inmate at Ryker’s. It’s austere. My wife, who is an interior designer, offered to “modernize it.” The Clinton administration didn’t want that. Suffice it to say that any president, regardless of party, is well-served by upgrading it. It’s not 1776 anymore.
