To add on: - I don't think that the original mangaka/animators were the devil incarnate. - However, I think that the selective moefication of the petite female characters is representative of broader issues in many anime where petite women are sometimes selectively made to resemble children. - flatter, shorter, younger-looking women exist -- I know this myself very well, as a short, flat and young looking women! However, I am still an adult. I don't have the eyes thrice the size of my taller peers. - the reason why I feel strongly about this is because as a petite, young-looking woman, I have been harassed by some pushy men who simultaneously sexualize me, value me for my youth (and youthful looks), while also constantly comparing me to children. It is exhausting. To rehash, I am not saying that the original creators of the manga/anime are the Very Bad, Very Evil, Most Awful Demons In All Of Existence. However, I think it is healthy for us to evaluate why there are many anime that present petite women as equivalent to children in appearance, and selectively apply this stylization ONLY to the petite women.
