I’ve been using this “gender decoder” to find any bias in the words I’m using for our job descriptions Twitter: is it ok that I’ve used strongly feminine coded language? Is the aim to be “neutral” or would you appreciate more affirmative action? gender-decoder.katmatfield.com

@OptoLia @ProfRachelGaN I was reading this article today: -gem.com/blog/creating-… which says that it is better to err on feminine language as men are less likely to 'self-select out' -- maybe @gem_software could provide a reference for this research?

Any thoughts @ProfRachelGaN ? My view is that the roles are based in male dominated fields so I want to appeal to the very small number of women and minority engineers. If I go neutral it kinda makes it still quite masculine coded due to the candidate pool?

In addition to her incredible research, I really appreciate that @OptoLia is bringing others with her, creating jobs that are more equitable, and by sharing her experiences as a founder to help make this process more achievable for others.

Yahoo!!! So glad that @OptoLia is being celebrated for her work! She's designed+tested an optomechanical sensor that can function in extreme environments like outer space- and improving current motion sensors 10,000 times! She's spinning out this research into @zpmtechnology

@ProfRachelGaN unfamiliar with Gallium Nitride, but several lifetimes ago was peripherally involved with early generations of laser diodes, which seem to have required a veritable alphabet soup of Ga-related compounds... Ga As Ga Al As Ga Al In As Ga Al In As P etc. IIRC 😀
