@HopeLouiseB @OptoLia @ProfRachelGaN Hi, Hope! fortefoundation.org/site/DocServer…: “gendered wording had the largest effect on women. Men were only slightly more likely to find masculinely worded jobs more appealing than femininely worded jobs, and there was no effect of gendered wording on men’s feelings of belongingness...”

I’ve been using this “gender decoder” to find any bias in the words I’m using for our job descriptions Twitter: is it ok that I’ve used strongly feminine coded language? Is the aim to be “neutral” or would you appreciate more affirmative action? gender-decoder.katmatfield.com

Any thoughts @ProfRachelGaN ? My view is that the roles are based in male dominated fields so I want to appeal to the very small number of women and minority engineers. If I go neutral it kinda makes it still quite masculine coded due to the candidate pool?

In addition to her incredible research, I really appreciate that @OptoLia is bringing others with her, creating jobs that are more equitable, and by sharing her experiences as a founder to help make this process more achievable for others.

@ProfRachelGaN unfamiliar with Gallium Nitride, but several lifetimes ago was peripherally involved with early generations of laser diodes, which seem to have required a veritable alphabet soup of Ga-related compounds... Ga As Ga Al As Ga Al In As Ga Al In As P etc. IIRC 😀

Wohoo! Through a @PIERCampus training organized by the amazing @genderwoche -- I made a podcast :D It was great to learn more about what goes into making all of the audio stories+journalism I love, and to have a chance to share some thoughts on science+physics+objectivity

\01 Excited that this project is out--and thankful for all the other people involved in this (I learned so much!!) I'm hoping to make a longer thread at some point to go through some of the physics (and how we did the research) more in detail, but will start with a teaser!!

Research led by the Cavendish Laboratory has identified a material that could help tackle speed and energy, the two biggest challenges for #computers of the future. @Cambridge_Uni @HopeLouiseB @AjaySoodIISc phy.cam.ac.uk/news/from-a-wi…
