@AJA_Cortes Death touch stuff basically exists. It is just less mystical and a lot more violent. Just look at what is forbidden in MMA. Striking the throat can easily kill somebody in a gruesome way with very little effort.

What's good about this scene is that while it is a great moment of Katara standing up for herself, the show respects your intelligence and doesn't have her easily beat the bending master with years of experience for a cheap "girl power" moment. Katara still loses the fight.

@SandyofCthulhu The common German term for acute back pain, usually because of a disc being wedged in too tight, is "Hexenschuss", which would translate to witch-shot.

The word "stroke" which we use to describe a brain infarction was originally "elf-stroke" and the belief was that an elf-shot caused strokes. If you dug around in the woods, you could even find little stone arrowheads proving that's what happened. So the effect of a real elf-shot was a stroke, which is absolutely terrifying. Incidentally, because stone age people use a lot of arrowheads, they're surprisingly common. More so in America than Europe, because our stone age people (native Americans) are more recent than theirs. But I was walking in the woods in Utah with a professor from BYU, and asking where he found all the cool arrowheads he had in his office, and he said, "They're around." Then he bent over, fished through the dirt for a few minutes, and came up with a flint arrowhead. This was up Provo Canyon. He didn't tell me how he knew it would be there. (I suppose it's possible he did sleight of hand to impress me.)
