@cabindotcity @artizen @JonathanHillis @RJPinnell Q/thought: how about some creative dwelling prototype/installation, that is exploratorily oriented to Cabin & #NetworkCity kinds of circumstances, needs, vibes? speculative next Cabin "shed room" imagining.

@andersem a foregone conclusion, and also opportunity; but an opening to move towards much better #FundedInclusionary Housing policy that maximizes affordability impact by openly seeking best use of funds—e.g. accross new, existing, alternate types of building: x.com/tmccormick/sta…

@CSElmendorf @CityJournal on ways to break out of #HousingTreadmill & address workforce issues, here'a a radical alternative I'm working on in PDX w/non-profit: hiring & training formerly unhoused to build v low-cost cottage homes, for their rehousing & also resiteable as ADUs.🧵 twitter.com/tmccormick/sta…?

I'd love to engage with @CSElmendorf offline on points I made in 2019 re labor. It seems you subscribe to a belief that "if we entitle it, [enough productive workers] will come." I don't see evidence that builders will do what it takes to attract enough. mercurynews.com/2019/04/14/opi…

@andersem @GovTinaKotek OR's landmark housing legislation could open up abundance & innovation, & even help rapidly build permanent #alternativehousing for/with the unhoused, if guided: as seen in KPTV report today w/#CascadiaClusters I work with kptv.com/2023/03/29/ore…. #HB2001 (#OHNA) + #HB5019 #orleg

@andersem Developing a set of permit-ready, pre-approved housing plans is one of those "off-the-shelf efficiency measures" we plan to create thanks to HB 2001. In addition to being a resource, those plans are a tool in the toolbox when accountability conversations with cities get serious.

Check out my latest article on @PlacesJournal placesjournal.org/article/recons… Now, more than ever, we need many new ideas to address our housing emergency; we also need to revisit overlooked strategies from our recent past...

@SparksTonyc first that comes to mind is, you might call a myth or perhaps more a Q: "homeless encampment" is the right term, ie appropriate & sufficient for what's being discussed. (if not defined & related to other terms. Eg camp, settlement, shanty. Btw just read an amazing book on this!)

@SideshowValarie One such illuminating other lens on #Thoreau & #Walden is the section on it in this wonderful 2016 book "Shantytown, USA" by @lisa_goff at @UVA, of which I have a copy. c/@StePrzybylinski @SparksTonyc #ShantytownUSA #shantytowns #SettlementsGroup #HomelessEncampments
