@seahawksownyou @Filmwatchers1 probably 2-on-1 funnel between the mugged backers since its an odd front and it just plays like a fancy version of 1 hole with Nikki being the DE/jack. i thought it was a 5mprs which was tripping me up.

@HowlingCommamdo @Filmwatchers1 But in every other edge pressure they have with man (Twister, Tornado, Needle, etc) the Edge blitzers are always on Peel alert, so i’m not sure if Nwosu and EJ have a 2-on-1 Funnel reading RB-to-Rat, or if Emmanwori is on peel alert.

@seahawksownyou @Filmwatchers1 i would lean no one and they just bet on pressure being the coverage. im not the most knowledgeable in man free rules but i think (saban) teams just share the back if the de is the back/spy player

@PackTalksXO i always like the idea of having dbl read stunts that can be pop or jam (slide to you = jam, slide away =pop) to stop qb runs without 9 man spacing or having to worry with stuff like arc and power read

@HowlingCommamdo Definitely. It has such high value with how good it is vs both gap and zone plays. You can create some of the force/flame mechanics to the backside for any gap scheme play; you get the ball cut off vs any zone play, lead plays you have an interior wrapper coming and the backer.

Oklahoma is one of the least static teams from a front standpoint in the country. Here are a few examples of iso and tops games they ran vs Gap/Lead against Kent State. Iso = Pop + Jam. Jam = 5T pick OG, 2i Wrap. Pop = 3T pick T, 5T wrap. Tops = 2i and 3T slant to a 3T and 2i.

Remember when Demarco Jones showcased his football IQ and signaled for a fair catch during an onside kick attempt? Then just 2 plays later- Bryson Green stretched into the end zone for the score after a pass from Spencer Sanders? The first half of the 2022 season was fun.

I'm sure we'll get some interesting adjustments from Coach Pat in his odd looks. But the personnel that made this hum aren't easily replaced. It's a long billing to live up to Kmac, Arvel, Sonny & Downs. The post spring game depth chart, sadly, doesn't look like it has the same versatility. Still, the 2025 Squad gave us plenty of good film.

@davis_jose30722 Thank you. I modeled those installs off of how they teach their pressures to be fluid. works really well with a modular field/boundary dime based defense.

@HowlingCommamdo Same pressure patterns--different fronts, coverages, personnel, positions. Like "X's on a chalkboard;" interchangeable parts. Coach McDonald did a great clinic on how he taught these through "pressure stations" in practice several years ago. Great stuff Xavier!!

4 Weak/4 Strong pressures. Theyre designed for a 3 hi structure but you can just move the pieces around to fit what ever you want.

Ohio State didn't always drop Arvell Reese into the boundary to get into a 5-man Front. Here, the Buckeyes align Reese and Caleb Downs (Ni) to the same side. The ultimate call is a... - Penny (5-1) - Sam (engage field Edge) - 6 (QQH) --

@davis_jose30722 yeah but it can be played out of even fronts aswell which works well with solid mechanics.

@HowlingCommamdo Doesn't Saban/Kirby Smart often use Shake with a trap 2 (roll) coverage and run it out of their "mint" package?

I’ve been asked by fellow Macdonald & Minter enthusiasts about these two concepts (Read Buddy & Screw) more than anything else so far in 2026. Alas, some context.
