At his acceptance ceremony he played a piece he’d written. Called it “Tuesday.” Dedicated it to me. “For the teacher who drove forty minutes each way because she believed in me.” He’s nineteen now. Teaches piano to foster kids every weekend. Fourteen students. All free. Came to visit last month. Brought one of his students. Shy girl. Eight years old. “This is Mrs. Anderson. She taught me that talent matters more than money.” The girl sat at my piano. Played a scale. Perfect. Sometimes Tuesday nights change everything....
