There's not being a fan of the Royals (an understandable position), then there's actively celebrating the death of an elderly woman. The second one makes you a very unsavoury person. She was an icon. Undeniably. And as someone who isn’t a royalist, I for one will mourn her loss.

The latest outrage from HS2 is a proposal to build a training centre on Red Furlong Farm in Poundon. What makes these proposals different is they're not in the 2017 Act, meaning planning permission is needed. I've written to @BucksCouncil, urging them to reject HS2's application.

I don't often post pictures of the Misbourne but with HS2 breathing down its neck thought it might be worth capturing some images from Old Amersham. Here the town has lived in harmony with the river harnessing its power since 1634 or before. We hope these flows continue.

@Alex_Stafford @stophs2bramley How about binning phase 1, keeping only the leg from London to Aylesbury, as the tunnels are under construction. Dirty diesel Chiltern then can be electrified. Overall will equal HS2 times. HS2 Londo-B'ham is SLOW - 52mins to cover 100 miles between stations, according to DfT.

@Alex_Stafford @stophs2bramley Why would any HS2 train go from Toton to Leeds via Sheffield? It makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. That's HS2. Most of the time would be spent on existing tracks.

@Alex_Stafford @stophs2bramley Well done. It has now been acknowledged by an HS2 'expert' that mixing NPR & HS2 trains on the same tracks will impair reliability & capacity on HS2. The trains travel at different speeds & have a different calling pattern. No need to do it. Just scrap HS2 & start again with NPR.
