Anyone else notice that @xai is limiting video gens on @grok for the Premium tier recently? I looked it up and it seems we're paying for their inability to scale demand. They also gated 720p & 10 sec duration to Supergrok tier only. Some really questionable decisions lately...

This clip about the "Male loneliness epidemic" was achived by asking Grok Imagine questions. NOT by using prompts. @elonmusk this is exactly why @grok imagine dominates the AI video space right now. A clip like this is basically impossible on Seedance 2.0, Kling 3.0, Sora, or the others. Not just because those tools don’t have a world-class LLM attached, but because their high price per generation pushes users to make the most hyperbolic nonsense possible just to get any ROI. A video generator you can actually talk to and improvise with was Grok’s golden goose. But shortening it back to 5 seconds (unless you pay mega $$$) feels like middle-management stooges nerfing the one thing that made Grok special. The real edge was the conversation + video combo, not just filmmaking.

Big release next week

Bugging out on 10-second videos has been a classic middle-management disaster for @grok. Its strongest selling point was always the improvised dialogue and fun, flowing conversations. Linking an LLM to Imagine for super short clips is pointless, it just forces intentional filmmaking as the only use case. Meanwhile, vibing and chatting with hot AI girls would probably print way more money.

In real life, no one talks about other people in terms of numeric value. No one asks the people they are dating or sleeping with what their “body count” is. Most women are not gold digging whores who only seek to date rich men who look like the college quarterback. All women on social media are not prostitutes and no one is reading a book called Morning Glory Milking Farm. The boys and young men who follow streamers like those featured in @louistheroux's documentary about the "manosphere," though, wouldn’t know that. Because they don’t go out into the real world. They don’t know any real women. They don’t have partners. I don’t even know if they have any male friends in real life. They grew up online, mainlining porn and clips from men calling themselves “HStikkytokky.” These streamers surround themselves with pornstars, convincing their followers that this is a sign of success, while simultaneously telling their young fans that these women deserve no respect on account of their “high body count” and whoredom. They insist money and a collection of very stupid women with very low self-esteem are the primary things that make men real men instead of soyboys. (That, and having big muscles and very tight pants.) The HStikkytokkys and Justin Wallers and Myron Gaines’ of the world, though, don’t actually seem very manly to me. They seem like gay little boys obsessed with their appearances. They have no useful skills to offer, like hunting or fishing or wood chopping or house building. They have nothing useful to offer at all, in fact. They apparently spend all their time online, live streaming for other little boys who also have nothing of value to offer the world. To be clear, this is not a dig at men and boys on the whole. Nor is the documentary. This is purely a dig at the the soulless grifters who saw there was a group of vulnerable, unhappy, naive boys ripe for the picking—with no real world knowledge or wisdom to prevent them from believing any lie sent their way. These boys clearly are lacking in good male role models and real world relationships that could offer a healthy, normal vision of either women or men. They are also online all day and night—the perfect targets for this messaging. It is sad, really, more than it is scary.

Do we want that? GTA V wouldn't have nearly the same community it does now if they rushed out yearly releases. It would also get boring really, really fast. This is also ignoring the fact that DLSS 5 won't run on consoles (they primarily use AMD hardware), and will likely only run on high-end 50-series cards (the demo ran on two 5090s), which have almost no adoption among the PC market. Any developer relying on this tech to make their game look good will be shooting themselves in the foot, as only a fraction of a percent of gamers will actually see the game properly. I have a feeling Nvidia is going to pitch this similarly to the RTX Remix stuff. Run it on old titles in your library to make them look "better".

DLSS 5 has changed the lens that I see games with. Since yesterday, I can't help but think how much better every game I play would look in DLSS 5 All of them. Stellar Blade Madden Last of us Forza Horizon Space Marine 2 Call of Duty List goes on....Anyone else?
