#TIC2026 successfully concluded two weeks ago 👏 Over 300 participants from around 60 countries and international organisations joined us in #Vienna 🇦🇹 for more than 200 presentations, sharing insights and best practices in nuclear installation safety. Under the theme “Learning from the Past to Accelerate the Future”, we reflected on lessons learned and explored how they can shape safer innovations ahead. As highlighted by DDGNS Karine Herviou in her closing remarks: “The future of nuclear safety will be shaped not only by new technologies, but by the people who develop, regulate and operate them.” #TIC2026 #NuclearSafety #LearningFromThePast 👉atoms.iaea.org/TIC2026

💡How is regulatory cooperation advancing globally? Last week, the #RCF Steering Committee convened @IAEAorg. An event which enabled participants to exchange information and to assess the progress of regulatory infrastructure development in recipient countries currently benefiting from RCF assistance. Discussions included the: 🔸upcoming evaluation report on the RCF 🔸programmes new operational plan for 2026 –2028 🔸results on common issues and the effectiveness of the RCF. DDGNS Karine Herviou in her opening remarks, highlighted that the RCF brought together countries with mature nuclear power programmes and those embarking on or expanding nuclear power, that enabled an important opportunity where experience, knowledge and practical solutions can be shared in a structured and effective manner. “In today’s complex, fast-evolving environment, leadership can drive real action, and it is important for regulators to sustain collaboration through global networks and dialogue, while ensuring that regulatory systems remain robust, resilient and responsive,” she said. Established in 2010, the RCF promotes the sharing of regulatory knowledge and experience through international cooperation with the goal of achieving a high level of nuclear safety that is consistent with the #IAEASafetyStandards. The IAEA Incident and Emergency Centre #IEC welcomed a delegation from the Office of Radiological Security (ORS) of the @NNSANews, and associated national laboratories. The ORS works to reduce the risk of malicious use of radioactive material, including by removing high-activity sources no longer needed by industry — work that connects closely with the IEC's role in supporting Member States in the search, recovery and securing radioactive sources out of regulatory control, as part of international assistance under the @IAEAorg emergency framework. The visit also underscored the IEC's 24/7 emergency response arrangements and its role as the global focal point for international preparedness, communication and response.
