@joannehuspek @MomaEVANS2 @MyToastisNot I have made more cutting boards then I can think of.
I cannot afford a Boos.
Almost every craft fair has some local selling excellent boards.

English

@MomaEVANS2 @IAWoodShop @MyToastisNot Yup. I tried bamboo. Don’t like it for cutting boards. I splurged and got a Boos Board. It’s 2” thick. I used to know a guy in Redford that made me nice little ones. I don’t know if he’s still around though.

Making a spatula (20 minutes)
I came across a few spalted maple logs about 10 years ago.
I saved them
Rip to .220" on bandsaw-(I found this thickness feels right)
Plane a taper to one end-both sides to about .110"
Sand-trace-cut out-sand-oil
I have been using my first one in the kitchen about 6 months. It is my go-to utensil.

English

@IAWoodShop That’s beautiful - where can I buy one from you? 😉
English

@ustechgod I have a cyclone collector out back (just posted). I will be piping the shop in the coming month and hopefully having the ceiling covered by then.
English

@IAWoodShop Drywall that ceiling or you'll have enough wood dust to flash fire the whole building. Massive fire hazard imo. That and the cleaning being easier
English

@studios Thank you
I have an earlier post showing how I was able to capture the sun at different times of the day. It really helped in the design of the windows and door.
English

@IAWoodShop Beautiful. I like the doors and windows particularly.
English

@blessedandold2 I soak them in Boos oil for a few coats. Then hit them with Boos wax.
The one I have used for almost 6 months is in great shape for not being that great a piece of wood. (loose grain-flat sawn)
It sits in water overnight too often and is fine.
English

@hardesttack I used our 24" monster at school for 40 years. I thought I would be disappointed with the Dewalt.
I am not.
At all.
It is impressive.
English

@saltonmy I was standing on a 2' pile of sawdust in the middle of the room 😂
It has its moments.
English

@MrJFTaylor Thank you!
Yes, the bar is almost there. It serves as a design center during the day, and a meeting place after hours.

English

@IAWoodShop Wow, that bar is coming together nicely !!
Looking warm and comfy in there, very nice.
English

@clintboyd_ Thank you for the tip. Amazon will have it on my porch tomorrow. I cannot believe I don't have that in my collection. Thanks!
English

@IAWoodShop The Workshop Book (by Landis) is a fantastic source of inspiration for layouts. Highly recommend. Congrats on the shop!
English

@adamwathan Something incredible happens in the mind during this mindless work. A recharge. Wandering thought that captures ideas. I love this work.
English

@IAWoodShop @ShitzPoppinoff The pinstripes on those things when in good enough shape are gorgeous.
Oh, and I remembered the make my friend collected - Barnes, pretty sure.

In my former life my student's 2nd project in Architectural Design was to select one of the 62 houses in the "1920 House Book".
This is all they had to go off of. They would draft the house first, and then I would make them update bathrooms and the kitchen. If a bedroom was on the 1st floor they had to add a full bath.
The most challenging; making the stairs "legit".
All this had to be done without growing the sq. ft. of the house. The most challenging part of the course for them.
The work was done in 3D (Revit)
I had flashbacks looking at your sketches on the plans in the post!

English

@BasedBidoof Hmmm. In the picture they look a little rough. That is the double-sided tape we use to secure them to the spoil board on the router. A nail file sanding board works great. It is a peaceful job.
Back when we made them in my class, it kept the kids subdued for a few days.
English

@IAWoodShop x.com/i/grok/share/a… maybe walnut shell would be safest
