PhD student Steven Pretty has combined subject-specific impact inputs (measured from falls in the lab) with subject-specific beam models of the femur (from DXA) to generate (you guessed it) subject-specific estimates of femoral neck stresses. Check it out!

Impact simulations of falls from standing height investigated impact dynamics and fx risk. Lateral and posterior-lateral impacts were most dangerous, and hip protectors most effective for lateral and oblique impacts. @IBAL_Lab, @FergusonLabETH, @IFleps

Congrats to our grad team for leading a J Applied Biomech @Human_Kinetics paper which used ultrasound to characterize soft tissue thickness overlying the greater trochanter, and modeled their influence on fall-related impact loads and hip fracture risk. doi.org/10.1123/jab.20….

More for the #FallPreventionISPGR collection! @IBAL_Lab measured the impact reduction of different types of wearable headgear that target older adults. These products aim to prevent head injuries should older adults fall by reducing impact severity.
