The officer concerned had no problem in visiting any sarva dharma sthal. In a particular place where only a temple & gurdwara existed, he was fine with attending the congregation and standing respectfully. He did not want to enter the sanctum sanctorum or do the rituals himself. His troops were fine with that, only one superior officer was not. The CO escalated the issue and the consequences are not borne by the dismissed officer alone.
