Seattle is considering a ban on data centers for a year. 5 proposed sites. 369 MW. 4 companies that walked into Seattle City Light and asked to pay industrial rates. This is what de-growth looks like as a governing philosophy. They are choosing No. /1
Guy Oron@GuyOron

The Seattle City Council has announced a new moratorium on data center construction within city limits. The proposal follows massive backlash to the news that several companies, under the shadows of NDAs, were exploring siting 5 data centers in the city. council.seattle.gov/2026/04/30/cou…

The theme underlying projects in WA state is zero-accountability. This applies to the KCRHA and most other initiatives pushed by the state, county, and local governments. The sole measure of success in these programs is how much money was spent. No need to audit.

A King County employee oversaw $800K in grant payments to five of their own family members. Red flags went unnoticed for years. When a colleague flagged potential fraud, he was fired four days later. If this happened at a public company, people would be going to prison. 🧵

If your NGO has to fold up shop when federal government subsidy goes away, it was never a “non governmental organization.”

Senator, we already pay about $1.30 more per gallon than the national average thanks to the CCA carbon tax your party passed. Global prices are rising, but Washington families get hit hardest because we were duped into this ‘green’ program that hasn’t delivered visible environmental wins.

@it_unprofession @JohnDCook I had the opposite experience once. Management wasn't satisfied with the highly paid consultant report. They asked me to do a report instead. I did and was very little fallout they made the changes I suggested. That only happened once though.

We hired a consulting firm to tell us why our profits are down. They sent three 24-year-olds wearing vests. They spent two months interviewing us about our own jobs. Then they put our answers into a PowerPoint presentation. They charged us $250K for this privilege. During the final readout, one of them used the phrase synergy optimization without blinking. I looked around the conference room. Our CEO was nodding like he just received the Ten Commandments. The grand conclusion was that we need to increase revenue and decrease costs. I could've told them that for a gift card to Panera. But nobody listens to the guy who works here. You only listen to the guy who flies in on a Tuesday. I'm updating my resume to include synergy optimization. It feels like the right move.

I'm concerned about this verdict and the overall trend of treating speech platforms as addictive — and therefore dangerous — products. Also, the verdict diminishes the responsibility parents have to raise healthy kids. For example: "Kaley says she began using YouTube at age 6 and Instagram at age 9 and told the jury she was on social media 'all day long' as a child." Where were the parents?

When talking about Ehrlich today, spare a moment to note that he set the template that the modern environmentalist movement still uses: apocalyptic forecasts that don't bear out, but which lead countless people to make disastrously bad personal & public-policy decisions.
