THIS IS HORIFFIC Secondary school teacher Jamie Varley is on trial accused of sexually assaulting and murdering 13-month-old baby boy Preston Davey. Varley and his 32-year-old partner John McGowan-Fazakerley were in the process of formally adopting the toddler at the time. On July 27, 2023, prosecutors say Varley twice sexually assaulted the baby before smothering him, causing fatal upper airway obstruction. Varley then rushed the limp child barefoot into Blackpool Victoria Hospital A&E wearing only red pyjamas, telling staff “I f****** killed him.” Despite resuscitation attempts lasting 45 minutes, Preston could not be saved. A post-mortem ruled out Varley’s claim that the baby had fallen from a bath seat. Varley denies murder, manslaughter, two counts of assault by penetration and multiple counts of child cruelty and sexual offences. His partner also denies charges relating to allowing the baby’s death and child cruelty. The trial continues at Preston Crown Court.
