What do you consider 'middle age'?

I wasn't thinking technically in terms of age. More of accumulated experience. Being 65 now, I can say that at around age 45 it hit me that I wasn't young anymore per se. Until then, I hadn't felt much different. Similarly, now at age 65, I've psychologically realized I've passed into the stage of life where one spends as much time looking back as looking ahead.

@IanWilsonAuthor Doesn't this assume an average lifespan of 90-130? Or am I being too technical?

@Cer_Llama @ZeitvilleMedia Listen to the "rustle of the morning stars". I've read and reread that book probably five or six times. It's impossible to fully digest and absorb that content on the first pass, so I understand your experience.

@MagicalEurope I can vouch for the beauty of Melnik. As a Canadian. I spent a few days there in September 2022.

Melnik is a town in Blagoevgrad Province, Southwestern Bulgaria, in the Southwestern Pirin Mountains, about 440 m above sea level. The town is an architectural reserve and 96 of its buildings are cultural monuments.

@Brick_Suit Brick, when I was there about ten years ago, the plaque giving the description of the locomotive called that Northern (4-8-4) a Mountain (4-8-2). Have they fixed that yet?

Trains & a car show! Stopped by Kingman AZ to visit the Santa Fe 3759 and there was a car show right next to it. 👍

@JJFilson @americanrails Great shot, John. I've stood just where you're standing and photographed 765 and C&O 614 there. Thurmond has magical qualities. Especially all the difficulty in getting there by road.

@americanrails It's one of those places, once you've been there (5 or 6 times now), you recognize it immediately, Thurmond WV. I was there during the filming of "Matewan" too. Those tanks in the post are to the right of image; the distinctive Chessie gantry has been decorated for the film.

@bruce_barrett Love those birds. Always said that the jackpot would be seeing one of them from a window in our suburban home. Saw every other bird, pretty much. After 26 years in the house, and putting it up for sale, within weeks of closing we saw one. Took it as a signal--okay to move now!

Got a pretty good video and some pics of our resident barred owl. A few moments later she swooped down and caught a mouse in the backyard. So cool.

@JoeyMannarino Tax in Bulgaria and Romania is 10%. They’re great countries with hard working people, beautiful towns and landscapes, and growth potential. And secure borders!

The first European nation to call for a 5% flat tax or a territorial tax system is going to get such a massive influx of high-quality migration that it won’t even be funny. People are going to Latin America for it as we speak. If it came to Europe, specifically in a Mediterranean country, the demand would be so huge they’d be turning people away. But even a less ideal country regarding climate. It would just be a boom beyond words. Why does NO COUNTRY realize this?

Alberta leaving Canada and joining America is a long shot but it could happen. As a bonus, the new map kinda gives the middle finger to the rest of Canada. Would you welcone Alberta as the 51st state?
