How unprincipled. Do Reform UK care about free speech? Sharing an Instagram post depicting Nigel Farage & a guillotine is distasteful Marxist rubbish, but does not warrant police involvement. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

You cannot have Lucy Connolly at your party conference and then report someone to the police for sharing a post of a bloke wearing an unpleasant t shirt and not be a hypocrite.

Congratulations to @AngelaRayner who takes up a role as Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government. Can’t wait to work together again and get cracking on bringing more devolution to the North. Something we’re both so passionate about. And just in case you don’t know what’s in it for you - here’s Angela giving us a devo run down in 30 seconds.

First day in the job and we're already cutting taxes on electricity bills. We're taking immediate action to help people with the cost of living, giving millions of households some much needed breathing space.
Department for Energy Security and Net Zero@energygovuk

Welcome to our new Secretary of State @Miatsf. The government is tackling rising bills with a tax cut to remove VAT from domestic electricity bills from October 1 in time to impact the next @Ofgem price cap. Helping households with energy bills and tackling the cost of living.

Wandsworth's Tory Council has axed holiday food vouchers. 10,000 children in Wandsworth now face hunger this summer. Every child deserves to eat. Sign our petition: wandsworthlabour.uk/petitions/chil…

Cutting VAT on energy bills is a great first move because: 1) Makes life a bit more affordable 2) Mechanically cuts inflation 3) Cost of living is what people care most about
HM Treasury@hmtreasury

The new government is taking immediate action to give people some breathing space on the cost of living. From 1 October, VAT will be removed from domestic electricity bills - helping households with energy costs this winter and funded within existing budgets.

It has been the privilege of my life to serve as the Chancellor of the Exchequer. The economy today is stronger, fairer and more resilient because of the choices we have taken as a Labour Government over the past two years. Stability restored, investment delivered and reform to our economy under way. I said when I was appointed Chancellor that I would judge my time in office if the lives ordinary working class people have been improved. I’m proud to say that they have. And to every young woman and girl let my time in office show there should be no ceilings on your ambitions, your hopes or your dreams. I wish the very best of luck to my successor, Andy and his cabinet. You have my full support, and I will continue to play my part in helping this Labour government deliver the change the country needs.

I woke up to the upsetting and worrying news - In Northern Ireland, they burned a model of a mosque with a sign stating "Secure our borders and end Islam." The police failed to stop it. This is deeply offensive, Islamophobic, and frightening to Muslims living in Northern Ireland. We are constantly under attack in the UK and nothing is being done. Andy Burnham - we need solutions.

@ChronicCrighton @Cph7ttgfrdYaaa @Azariel91 So what you’re saying is that in this scenario the police would indeed have needed a warrant, even though this is not America, to enter the house without being invited?

It had made nearly half a million dollars. She’d simply transferred ownership into her husband’s name and forged paperwork showing I had “voluntarily exited.” Instead of calling a lawyer immediately, I accepted her invitation to the restaurant’s one-year anniversary celebration. When she thanked everyone for supporting “her journey,” I walked onto the stage carrying a binder. “I’d like to congratulate my sister,” I smiled. “For pulling off one of the most creative frauds I’ve ever seen.”

My sister begged me to invest in her dream restaurant. I emptied my savings because I believed in her. Six months later, she announced the business had failed. She cried. I cried with her. Then the tax office accidentally mailed one of the business statements to my address. The restaurant hadn’t failed.
