Fantastic new study by @Brown_lab1, @MiriamMerad and teams: mRNA vaccine potency comes from detargeting hepatocytes, not dendritic cell expression, avoiding PD1/PDL1-driven T cell suppression. A path to better, more effective therapies. nature.com/articles/s4158…

#SCG2026 registration opens at 1 PM UK time on Thursday, 30 April. Spots are limited, and in previous years registration filled in less time than it takes to run a UMAP. Register here: conferences.weizmann.ac.il/SCG2026/

@OdedRechavi Technically, this may not require major changes and could even improve the process. Panel members can be stricter with unfunded proposals and use B scores to clearly flag uncompetitive applications. There is no rule limiting how many proposals can fall into the B category.

Announced by the ERC today (really bad news for science!!! It starts in Europe but will affect everybody) Because the REVIEWING LOAD is so bad, if your application fails you may need to wait mulitple years (>3?!?) until you can submit again! The ERC is the lifeline of the leading labs in Europe, so many research programs will be terminated (just no other sources to compensate). The letter from the ERC says “the only way is to reduce applications” (highlighted in the picture below) No!!! It's the wrong direction. Use AI to assist review. It’s not perfect (yet), but it allows more proposals to be evaluated, and it could support, not replace, human reviewers.

I am happy to see this paper getting so much attention! I think this approach, modified from @IdoAmitLab ‘s amazing PICseq, is a useful tool to investigate the alloimmune response in human solid organ transplantation @ucddublin @UCD_Research @UCD_Conway @WashUNephrology @svuh

Beautiful and important work from Aaron, colleagues, and the Adimab team. If we are still missing such a basic property of therapeutic antibodies, imagine how much of Ab mechanism of action we still do not fully understand, and how much more could be achieved if we did.
Aaron Ring@aaronmring

How specific are therapeutic monoclonal antibodies, really? In our new paper, @Yile_Dai led a collaboration with Adimab to profile 174 FDA-approved and clinical-stage mAbs against 6,172 human extracellular proteins. What we found surprised us.🧵 sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

We are excited to share that our team's paper is published in Immunity: "Resident tissue macrophages maintain intraocular pressure homeostasis." This work grew out of a collaboration between glaucoma clinician-scientist Katy Liu MD PhD, glaucoma physiologist W. Daniel Stamer PhD, and immunologist Daniel Saban PhD, bringing together clinical, physiological, and immunological expertise to tackle a long-standing question: does the immune system directly regulate intraocular pressure? The answer is yes. authors.elsevier.com/a/1mkeB3qNrV3V… #Glaucoma #Immunology #ResidentMacrophages #Ophthalmology #Immunity #CellPress cell.com/immunity/fullt…
