@halucygeno @JaneSmi59961167 u'd be within ur rights to make such complain. Whether u find the complain reasonable or not its another story. Being mad at someone sharing a complain is the ridiculous thing ESPECIALLY since OP said and highlighted very clearly u can do as u please, they were just asking why.

@ImRamudaClone @JaneSmi59961167 By your logic, if I bought donuts from Dunkin Donuts, and then didn't dunk them into anything, you'd be saying: "I'm consistently confused by people like you. Why buy DUNKIN Donuts if you're not gonna dunk them?" The "purpose" of AO3 is whatever its users want to use it for.

@halucygeno @JaneSmi59961167 Besides, their point stands still. AO3 stands for Archive of Our Own. Do as u wish with ur fic, I'm not someone who tends to re-read fics over time, but u gotta understand that it makes no sense to use "the site for archival" and get mad that people advocate for archival. lmfao

@ImRamudaClone @JaneSmi59961167 "I am CONSISTENTLY CONFUSED by the very weird behavior of this group of people" "Why aren't they archiving things? Don't they see the website has ARCHIVE in the name?" Like, you do you understand that you can talk down to someone without ever explicitly calling them stupid?

@halucygeno @JaneSmi59961167 The way OP NEVER said that they were weird lmfao. U can disagree with OP's point but trying to put words that they never said is honestly WILD. I didn't know that being confused by other's actions meant thinking they r stupid. That says a lot more about you than about OP.

@bbvvamvam @bokutosayswhaat Yes, I said many, I never said all. The thing is, I understand not outright supporting piracy but at the very least I think you should understand why it happens and why people do it. Other solutions, as I said, is offering to ship everywhere/dynamic prices

@ImRamudaClone @bokutosayswhaat Some indie game developers see piracy as free marketing, but not all. Majority of authors make next to nothing for their work and only the top 1% will be able to make a livable wage as a writer, so it's perfectly reasonable that they wouldn't support piracy.

I don’t care about book piracy discourse coming from American authors because they will never understand what it’s like living in a third world country with no public libraries, books that costs 3x your salary, or bookstores that don’t even have recent books in their inventory

@bbvvamvam @bokutosayswhaat Why? In the gaming industry, many indie developers have offered ways of safely pirating their games, offering dynamic prices depending on country currency and even saying that sharing ur love for the game helps too. I don't see why other industries couldn't be as humane as them

@lunnadream8859 @spoocle The problem is the indie dev asking to change the 2 hours policy (a policy that, btw, has existed for YEARS now and its smth devs should know already) instead of looking for a better solution. just cuz their game is finished in 2 hours doesnt mean other games are.

@ImRamudaClone @spoocle Yes, if you leave before finishing. If you stay till the end and then ask for your money back because you didn't like it, they won't give it to you, and they shouldn't Stores actually bend enormously to consumers, because that's a profitable strategy. That doesn't make it right

I'm the creator of small, short games. And I do NOT think Steam should change its refund policy. I've made many games that are 30–40 minutes long. Do you know what their refund rate is? About 10%, which is the average refund rate for all games on Steam. The fact that this particular person has a refund rate of around 30% is NOT because the game is short! It's because something is wrong with the game! Moreover, I've seen a refund rate of about 20% on my own games, and often that happened when the game turned out to be not very interesting — and that's normal! People should have the right to get their money back for something they didn't like, didn't suit them, or disappointed them. Yes, there will be a percentage of people who just want to take advantage of the system. But that percentage is incredibly small, and if his game weren't tied to online features, those people would have just pirated it anyway. Steam's policy is on the side of the buyers, and in reality, it doesn't harm the creators of small, good games at all. Let it stay that way.

@lunnadream8859 @spoocle This take is ridiculous. In many cinemas u can actually refund a movie if u quit it under a certain amount of times. Many E-book stores allow u to refund as well. Just because the world doesn't care about consumers means that we should keep going that way.

@spoocle You're being too hard on yourself. No, people don't deserve a refund just because the game they played wasn't interesting enough. You can't refund movies, books, plays, or any other sort of entertainment on those grounds.

I am consistently confused by people treating Archive of Our Own as a regular algorithmic social media site, to the point that they delete fics when they decide to move fandoms. Its your work to do what you want with, but why publish on an ARCHIVE with no intent of archival.

All they said was that it is an ARCHIVE. If u don't want to be linked to that fanfic anymore u can orphan it so its no longer under ur name.

An indie developer is asking Valve to change Steam’s 2-hour refund policy after more than 55,000 players refunded his game after finishing it. The developer says his co-op game, Paddle Paddle Paddle, can be completed in under two hours. Because of that, many players finished the game, asked for a refund, and even left reviews saying they enjoyed it but got their money back anyway. According to the developer, the game has over 90% positive reviews, but the high number of refunds is making it much harder for a short indie game to be successful. Steam currently lets players get a refund if they bought a game within the last 14 days and played it for less than two hours.

@OG_MISTER_POPO @sylateral @Pirat_Nation I want the best for indie devs but also for the consumers. Reducing the 2 hour policy refund is ridiculous, while this indie's game takes only 2 hours to to beat, many others take 30+. It'd be unfair to not allow consumers to have a fair try of a game bc of a single indie game
