@JJColao @keachhagey @sama @laureltouby That was an interesting evening, thank you for the invitation.

Huge thanks to @keachhagey for walking us through the reporting in her fantastic @Sama biography, "The Optimist", last night. We inadvertently distracted a sizable cohort of tech reporters from like 3 breaking AI stories, but it was worth it.
As always, grateful to @laureltouby and @jonfine for being stupendous co-hosts, and to everyone who spent their night with us, including @alexrkonrad, @RebeccaBellan, @DominicMadori, @ychernova, @JordynJournals, @Jenna_Goudreau, @MtthwRose, @christopherzara, @lalpert1, @dbiello, @BenLucasSherry, @sindap, @EmmaBurleigh1, @dianebrady, @jyarow, @StevenLevy, @alexbruell, @InTheMkts, @_constantjo, @DavidJeans2, @Hilarx, @maloneyfiles, @britneycath, @louisamira, @daviddotwalker, and @sahmehta.
We're doing another one in June, hopefully with fewer breaking stories this time.

@FrancisSuarez Every large, elite company in the world is pouring into Manhattan. Miami? ZERO. People who say everyone is leaving Manhattan are Fake News. In fact the opposite is happening. Manhattan has never been stronger 🔥🔥

This might be the best political interview ever. Nothing the rabbi said is surprising. What’s surprising is that he said it. No one like him ever has. mishpacha.com/the-kingmaker-…

@TheNobbleNobs @JewishWonk He absolutely can. The mayor gets to appoint members of the Rent Guidelines Board. No input or approval from Albany needed.

I am not a Mamdani fan, but it's pretty clear that this is a result of his social media-first approach.
Dem primaries in non-presidential years tend to be low turnout and mostly older affairs.
There are lessons to be learned for other Democrats running for office here.

18-24 year olds were the LARGEST group in the NYC Mayoral Primary, followed by 25-29 year olds, followed by 30-34 year olds This rarely happens if ever

@JewishWonk There are almost 1 million rent-regulated apartments in NYC. Most folks who live in those units would be thrilled with a June 2026 rent freeze.
English

@InTheMkts Mamdani cannot deliver on that promise.
A) it only applies to existing rent stabilized stock (~25% of housing)
B) It's done through the rent guidelines board, which has staggered terms
C) His best case scenario is a rent freeze in June 2026 for rent stabilized housing
English

@JewishWonk I think most voters understand politicians can't deliver on all their promises. But Mamdani can deliver on his promise to freeze rents and that matters greatly to many people.

When I started covering local NYC news about 10 years ago, progressives pols protested almost every major new development. Now they are some of the city's biggest pro-housing voices. My latest story for @CrainsNewYork explores how and why that happened. crainsnewyork.com/real-estate/wh…

Today’s Throwback goes back 21 years to 2003.
@CrainsNewYork Business magazine had always been very good to Paul and I. We always went out of our way to engage with them, speak to their real estate reporters, and attend their functions.
This relationship proved to be mutually beneficial, as we had given them several ideas for trend stories, and they had always paid close attention to the developments and growth of our firm.
In 2002, one of our clients called asking if we wouldn’t mind being nominated for their Top Entrepreneurs recognition awards. Of course, we were flattered and suggested it would be a great honor if this client would nominate us.
To our delight, Crains awarded us with the recognition as Top Entrepreneurs in their 2003 version of the awards. Below is the piece that they wrote about us.
This recognition was particularly appreciated as it was not just a real estate recognition but a recognition within the entire business community in New York City. We knew that we had created something that was very special, but didn’t realize that the recognition of what we were doing extended and was recognized beyond just the real estate community.
We will be forever grateful to Crains for all of their support and the various recognitions they have given us over the years.

@JPosnanski My dad took me to Wrigley Field in 1977 to see the Big Red Machine. Someone hit a grounder to third that took a bad hop, Rose made an error, and the crowd went nuts. Everyone in the stands always had their eyes on Rose. Anyway, the Reds won 8-3, Bench hit a homer on Waveland Ave.
