India in Suriname
@IndEmbSur
Welcome to the official twitter account of the Embassy of India in Paramaribo, Suriname.

Spoke on the theme ‘Partnership for Progress’ at Paramaribo this evening. Thank FM Melvin Bouva for his presence and the @MOFASur for organising the programme. Made the case that a tough world nevertheless requires progress. And that is best achieved through partnerships. Highlighted the characteristics of a trusted partner who can reconcile national interest with global good. Described India’s role in global politics in that context, focusing on our development partnerships, global workforce, first responder record, and new initiatives. It is this India that will partner Suriname in its growth trajectory and jointly write the next chapter of the 🇮🇳 🇸🇷 story.

Pleasure to meet National Assembly Chair Michael Ashwin Adhin this morning. @AdhinMichael A warm and productive discussion on India-Suriname cooperation in various domains. Recognized the importance of Parliamentary exchanges between our two democracies. 🇮🇳 🇸🇷

Visited the Lalla Rookh museum of Indo-Surinamese heritage. The courage and resilience of Girmityas continue to inspire generations and remain at the heart of our enduring friendship.

India’s Development Partnership in Action ! Joined FM Melvin Bouva and Agriculture Minister Mike Noersalim at the handing over of Agro Passion Fruit processing facility in Paramaribo #Suriname. Built with Indian assistance, this project is a commitment to value addition and self-reliance. Reaffirms India as a trusted development partner of Suriname. 🇮🇳 🇸🇷

Paid homage at the ‘Monument for the Fallen Heroes’ in Mariënburg #Suriname. Their sacrifices in 1902 are an inspiration in the struggle against colonialism. These Girmityas fought for dignity and freedom abroad, even as countless others did in Bharat. Our global story for liberty and justice must always be told and re-told.

Pleased to call on President Jennifer Geerlings-Simons of Suriname this afternoon. Conveyed warm greetings from India to the Government and people of Suriname. Our two nations are committed to realize the full potential of the deep and longstanding 🇮🇳🇸🇷 relationship.

‘A tough world needs good friends’ In Paramaribo, the Indian and Surinamese delegations engaged in a comprehensive review of 🇮🇳🇸🇷 relations, under the aegis of the 9th Joint Commission Meeting. @MOFASur We covered trade, digital & investment, defence & energy, development assistance & capacity building, health & mobility, culture & people-to-people exchanges. Confident that the outcomes of our deliberations today will further deepen and diversify our ties.

A warm and open conversation with FM Melvin Bouva #Suriname this morning. @MOFASur 🇮🇳 🇸🇷

Started the day by paying respects at Mahatma Gandhi’s statue in Central Paramaribo #Suriname

Privileged to pay my tribute today at the Baba and Mai monument, representative of the first Hindustanis who came to Suriname.
