I’m ashamed to say this, but I’m going to try Crimson Desert. Imma let y’all know if it is ass or not.

Going to regret it? Probably, but y’all can expect an honest review from me. It is what it is.

A mediocre plot and bland writing can't hold back one of the most ambitious games ever made. Stunning graphics, great gameplay, and excellent music carry you through hundreds of hours of systems-based fun. It somehow lives up to all the hype, with some rough edges in tow. playday.one/2026/03/18/cri…

It WAS quite silly to expect them to build the next Elden Ring, but that's exactly why you're seeing this shift of opinions. IF we ever get "the next Elden Ring", the vast majority of people will be able to recognize it. It won't debut to a 79 on Metacritic. That's what happened here. Expectations were very suddenly shattered. Everyone has been brought back down to earth. Honestly, what's actually disturbing is that people convinced themselves Crimson Desert would be the next Elden Ring in the first place. It feels unfair to the devs, especially now that a big deal has been made of it. It shouldn't need to be Elden Ring in order to be enjoyed, but seeing as that's what so many people weirdly expected, it makes sense that they're suddenly not interested anymore.
