To be an American is to be perpetually manipulated, deceived, hustled and swindled and for good reason to have to suspect everyone and everything is trying to scam you. You are told not to believe your own eyes. This produces an insane human being, or psychopaths, or idiots.

@Afinetheorem This really is a great summary of why I hate academics. You assume it’s basically impossible for real people to oppose your beliefs. I’d love to defund the entire education system out of pure spite for people like you, though I think it would be better for actual education also.

Two kinds of people in the world. Those that believe like LKY that US econ dominance is based on being able to hire world's most ambitious, smartest people in a meritocratic space, and those that think if their friend worked at Google instead, US firms would still be dominant.

This is embarrassing for India and they really need to stop wanting it both ways: "We’'re a rising superpower," but also "Please don’t limit visas for our citizens." Serious countries understand that other nations have a right to control immigration in their own national interest.
Fox News Politics@foxnewspolitics

AMERICA FIRST: Rubio pushes back on India's concerns over U.S. visa curbs, tells New Delhi the immigration overhaul targets no single country — but acknowledges India feels a 'disproportionate impact' as a top source of high-skilled workers. He framed the changes as a long-overdue modernization after 20 million people entered the U.S. illegally in recent years, urging India to weather the 'bumps on that road' during the transition period.

The American worker now faces a three-pronged attack. First, DEI policies discriminate against white employees in hiring and promotions. Second, corporations import cheap foreign labour through programs like H-1B visa. Third, when Americans cannot be replaced at home, their jobs are simply shipped abroad to countries like India. Few companies embody all three trends more clearly than IBM. The tech giant recently agreed to pay $17 million to settle allegations from the U.S. government that it discriminated against employees on the basis of race and sex. Federal authorities alleged the company tied bonuses and hiring decisions to demographic targets and restricted certain opportunities on the basis of identity. At the same time, IBM has relied heavily on imported labour, receiving 32,725 H-1B visa approvals over the past decade according to USCIS data. And increasingly, the company’s future appears rooted outside the United States altogether: under Indian-born CEO Arvind Krishna, IBM now employs roughly a third of its 280,000 workers in India, a figure that may rival, or even surpass, its American headcount.

The AI bubble math doesn't add up. Anthropic spends $3 to make $1 and that’s before you include any and all other costs like staff or electricity. Microsoft dumped $300B in capex, made ~$18B in AI revenue. OpenAI and Anthropic alone make up 43-54% of Microsoft, Google, Amazon and Oracle's entire revenue backlogs. Enterprises are burning through annual AI budgets in 4 months with zero measurable ROI. This is the most expensive science experiment in history, funded by your SaaS subscriptions.

This is a deliberate attempt to make 100,000s leave the US & abandon protection of the constitution in order to become green card holders.
USCIS@USCIS

USCIS is applying long-standing law and prior court decisions to require certain aliens with temporary visas who decide they want to permanently reside in the U.S. to return to their home countries to apply for permanent visas through the @StateDept. We're returning to the original intent of the law to ensure aliens navigate our nation’s immigration system properly. Here’s what you should know: uscis.gov/newsroom/news-…

Look at the replies and quotes of this. They know exactly what the USCIS is doing: making them leave the country so they can be prevented from coming back in. Absolute cinema. I voted for this.

Translation: if you’re a advanced researcher at OpenAI on the O1 visa (extraordinary ability) and you apply for a green card, they’ll make you go back abroad and wait years for an appointment. Of course, by then you probably no longer work at OpenAI.

but lurking behind the policy is another nasty tactic; an effort to route as many immigration decisions as possible through the State Department, where executive authority is unquestionable and the doctrine of consular nonreviewability means decisions don't need to be explained

colossal shift in USCIS policy was just announced- they want to basically totally stop domestic adjustment of status & make every person who wants to change visa types go back to their country and apply again. absolutely absurd, intended to gum up the system, and idk if its legal

Adjustment of Status is not a "loophole". It's a legal immigration process stipulated in the regulations. Visas such as O-1s and H-1Bs are 'dual-intent', which means the visa holder be in the US working on a 'non-immigrant' visa and also apply for permanent residence. It's legal

The biggest bullshit move by DHS in its history. So everyone on a O1 or H1B visa would have to stop working legally in the US, go back to their country and wait for years of backlog? This includes top scientists in our universities, founders of billion dollar companies (at least 3 just in our portfolio would be affected by the way). And if we look at individual countries it becomes even more bs. Indians would have to wait decades. Russians don’t have anywhere to go (there is no US embassy in Russia, hello?). This is the worst imaginable way to disrupt important work for the country and pretend you’re fighting some loophole.
Homeland Security@DHSgov

An alien who is in the U.S. temporarily and wants a Green Card must return to their home country to apply. This policy allows our immigration system to function as the law intended instead of incentivizing loopholes. The era of abusing our nation’s immigration system is over.

US officials leaking to WaPo how badly Israel is weakening the Empire, shows growing resentment. Yet Israel remains confident that there’s no sacrifice Washington won’t make for Tel Aviv’s benefit, up to and including national suicide, and so far Israel’s been proven right

This is a radical change to immigration policy, forcing anyone applying for a green card to leave the country indefinitely, forget whether they have American kids, spouse, etc. The talking point that we do want legal immigration, we just want people to get in line and follow the rules, is BS. This is an attempt to blow up the line, blow up the rules, and make it insanely difficult to immigrate legally.
