DNS domains now compose 90%+ of our business, and as we move to get several of our TLDs also listed in ICANN over the next few years our focus will continue to grow on the DNS and traditional internet market. We expect that 2-3 years from now DNS and the traditional web will be 99%+ of our business. For this reason you'll see updates on our site to reflect our new focus on traditional web2 domains. This is intentional. Web3 only domains were part of the crypto craze in 2021 but did not cross the chasm into mainstream usage. And for a while now we have believed they will remain a niche market now and into the future. They were a great place to start our journey into domains, but going forward our focus will be even more on the traditional market as it's the market that has crossed the chasm and is seeing mainstream usage.

Wanted to share what we've been building and where we're headed.
**Halcyon (HSR)** is an NFT-based subdomain marketplace bridging Handshake TLDs with Flare Network for payments. Register a subdomain, pay in FLR, get instant DNS resolution via PowerDNS.
**What's working now:**
- Subdomain search & registration with wallet connect
- FLR payments via smart contracts on Coston2 testnet
- Live DNS resolution (PowerDNS + PostgreSQL)
- On-chain name resolver (HSRResolver + Resolver SDK)
- FTSO price oracle for FLR/USD pricing
- Admin panel with full domain/TLD management
**What's next:**
We're implementing james-stevens' handshake-volume-resolver as our public-facing DNS layer. This gives us:
- Native HNS root resolution without special client config
- DNS over HTTPS browsers can resolve Handshake names without plugins
- Load-balanced queries via dnsdist
- Built-in Prometheus monitoring
- ETH domain support down the line
This sits in front of our existing PowerDNS setup and makes Handshake names accessible to everyone, not just people running HNS-aware resolvers.
Soft launch coming soon on Coston2. AI-generated artwork per subdomain is in the pipeline for Phase 2.

What’s Happening!
Starting February 1, Namebase will pause all user activity so we can migrate to a new entity and fully rebuilt and reconstructed system.
This is a deliberate, planned migration to a new system that is designed to improve long-term security, reliability, functionality, and sustainability.
Once this process begins:
- User logins will be disabled
- Auctions, bids, transfers, and withdrawals will be paused
- The platform will be temporarily offline
- This pause is required to safely complete the migration
Timeline
Start date: February 1, 2026
Expected downtime: 3–4 weeks
Access during downtime
- None (platform fully offline)
- We will reopen only after the migration is complete and the system has been fully tested
What Happens to Your Funds and Names
Namebase is a custody platform. The safety of user assets is the top priority.
- All funds and Handshake names remain secure throughout the migration
- No action is required to keep assets safe
- If you do nothing, everything will be available exactly as-is when Namebase reopens
What You May Want to Do Before February 1
Withdrawals
If you plan to use funds elsewhere during the downtime:
- Withdraw funds before February 1
- Withdrawals will not be available once the migration begins
Participating in Auctions During Downtime
If you want to continue bidding or participating in Handshake auctions while Namebase is offline, you can do so via:

- To withdraw, you must move any funds or names before February 1.
What’s Coming
The new Namebase will have many new features the community has been asking for, including:
- A secondary market for SLD buying and selling ☑️

These additions are part of a comprehensive overhaul and effort to make the new Namebase a more robust platform that is better suited for long-term growth in the Handshake ecosystem.

Namecheap owned Namebase that just sold. The new VCs obviously wanted to do some cleaning and dumped it. The rumored original price paid by Namecheap was $5Million. Rumored recent sale price was a box of donuts and a $50 Visa Gift Card
