Ways to cue unknowingly: board drift, verbal prompts, hand/body gestures, delete misses, pre-typed responses to FAQs, rehearsed messages, edited videos

@Mr_Big_Guy_ @maniaUFO Lots of studies were done. Lots of people in lab coats believe it works. Lots of documentation exists for it. Nevertheless, it’s all bullshit. The methodology was horribly flawed. So much so that it’s one big joke.

@Layfield @heidieatsalot @songjunkr @TelepathyTapes One technical difference between Sharon and Cara/Melissa is that Cara/Melissa don’t facilitate with a letter board. They don’t engage directly with ideomotor movements and instead simply channel. If you believe in channeling aliens, plants, black holes, etc., then good luck.

@FCisnotScience Is Dr. Prizant in a position to influence decision-makers? I don’t know how policies are actually made. I assume ASHA and other professional orgs’ stance against FC guides the decision-making in schools, healthcare providers, insurance, courts, etc. Maybe few ignore the guidance?

Facilitated Communication is Not Science
Reliably controlled testing should be mandatory for all facilitators, not just those with extreme psychological issues (e.g., Gigi Jordan or Anna Stubblefield). Facilitator cueing/control over letter selection isn't contingent on financial gain or attention-seeking behaviors.
🎢@InteligntHodler

@FCisnotScience Isn’t it plausible that a manipulative, psychotic parent out there is intentionally facilitating his/her kid for attention and money? Or non-parent facilitator gets the parent’s guard down via FC in order to gain financial access?

@ChristianityOn @Etanarachel Good point that anyone can be trained to utilize TSL but not FC. If you can’t presume competence, then you can’t hypnotize yourself into automatic writing, which is what being an “open speller” (technically open facilitator) means.

@ChristianityOn @Etanarachel In poorly designed message passing tests where the stimulus is a written word or phrase, a third possible outcome is that the facilitatee memorizes the sequence of letters by rote and repeats without literary comprehension, thus “passing.”
🎢@InteligntHodler

@jimtemu @berutei @FCisnotScience The first stimulus contains the word GRAZING, and the second is LITTLE. Maria facilitated incorrect follow-up guesses based on the word in the video (sensory leakage). Proponents of FC will post-hoc invoke psi abilities by the client to explain negative results (confm bias).

@spearson1961_p @CatherineFairb1 @draevans Telepathy doesn’t exist. Ideomotor phenomenon in the form of Ouija board, automatic writing, facilitated communication (FC), etc. does exist. People mistake failed message passing test in the context of FC for supposed telepathy.

I had a doctor at the emergency room recommend the podcast. He said it changed his entire way of thinking about Autism. I started listening to the podcast. But haven’t been able to get back to it. Do I think telepathy exists? Absolutely, see my pinned photo of my grandson and the stingray. They connected and it was very obvious. Even other people around us noticed them. But telepathy between people I think is much harder. Still deciding about that.

Autism through a family’s perspective: Hospitalization It was just 6 days ago that we watched my grandson celebrate Easter. Due to his profound Autism and the ability to elope; his egg hunt was in our safely secured backyard. We are fortunate to have a spacious and beautiful backyard too. So it was quite an enjoyable event. But since then… We watched my grandson spiral downward. At first the normal signs of springtime pollen allergies. So common and treatable. But for a child like my grandson, his sensory perception is particularly enhanced when it comes to taste and texture. His automatic reactions to gagging and vomiting certain foods and all medications has always been a big challenge. Our best form of getting vitamins and medications in him has been through grinding up tablet form and dissolving in warm tea, then poured over ice. That only works when he is also eating. But 3 days ago he stopped eating. When that happens, it’s only a matter of time before existing symptoms worsen. Because if we can’t get medication in him then we can’t treat his symptoms. He was hospitalized yesterday. Tests finally back. Strep throat! When a child is nonverbal…How do they tell you what area of their body hurts? It wasn’t until yesterday that his difficulty to swallow had become prominent enough to notice. Thus the order of the strep throat test. Now…it’s IV for dehydration and antibiotics for infection. Because, he can’t eat or drink anything. These are just one of many challenges that children, adults and families of profound Autism face.

@kelduck Sean over many years is being trained to poke at specific letter or number that the person holding the board is unintentionally cueing for, not acquiring literacy or math skills. The difference between this and puppeteering is that a puppeteer intentionally manipulates.

A quick thread on something that's low stakes, but it's an interesting story to me because it involves woo. It concerns a classic "feel good" media story about a man named Woody Brown, a severely mentally disabled man who supposedly graduated from college and wrote a book.

@dilanesper If Woody gets a new facilitator, that person must read his mom’s book and writings or else Woody’s facilitated persona will be different from before.
🎢@InteligntHodler

@FCisnotScience And they avoid things like letting the FCed person have deep connections, responsibilities, or commitments with other people because one facilitator can’t keep track of it all. If someone is a best friend or partner with an FCed, all can be lost if the facilitator is replaced.

The telepathy tapes is a documentary series with a professional researcher on childern just like your son. “Severe, non verbal and disabled” neurodivergents. Who show that these kids have PROFOUND inner experiences. In one of the first episodes a woman talks about getting to communicate with her son for the first time in 20 years. YOU have a difficult time as his caretaker and YOU want the world and professionals and other autistics to support him. To help YOU. Otherwise you would expore every opportunity for him to be the best he is able to be. And the world will support that. My experience is a parent who tries to condemn my differences to the world they have condemned themselves to, too, so I be knowing. But you do you, boo.
