Buddy said he could make a model without AI. First thing he did was generate the character with AI. If this was Polycount, guy would have had to go into witness protection for a few years and come back with a new account to survive the embarrassment.

Ok I just wanted to mesh the hat to get that out of the way. The way you do something like this these days is you generate a high poly then build the mesh properly around it. This will go slowly but it wont be super hard. Welcome to the the future :)

TL;DR: distorting your UVs to fill in “wasted” space doesn’t make your texture better or more detailed. It creates arbitrary pockets of increased detail, usually in weird spots like the back of the head or the bottom of pant legs.

The UVs referenced here are not good; they are extremely distorted (all islands straightened for no reason) and packed onto 15(!) different texture sets, which undoubtedly means the texel density is very inconsistent as well.
