Energy companies made £30 BILLION in profit in a single year — while working people struggle to pay their bills - £500 from every household straight into corporate profits. The system is working exactly as designed, just not for ordinary people.

Daniel - I'm sure it’s part of the MP Code of Conduct (if not the overarching aim) that members must not act in a way that causes significant damage to the reputation and integrity of the House of Commons as a whole. I would suggest that the total mockery being made of PMq’s has already crossed that threshold. Constituents raise valid concerns to their elected representative whom then sees fit to ask the PM directly and all we get is traded insults which have nothing to do with the question asked. The MP has not had their question answered, the constituent is left feeling ignored, insignificant, belittled.

Absolutely pathetic from Reform UK MPs as they stage a mass (well, eight) walkout of #PMQs. Obviously pre-rehearsed but very much reflective of their thin-skinned demeanour in Westminster. Rare to see them in the chamber at all to be fair.

@LufieAlicepa @BellaWallerstei If an individual moves off benefits and into work, then the lack of employers NI revenue to to government for that worker will be offset by the government not having to pay that person benefits. They will also receive some PAYE too.

Instead of forcing taxpayers to subsidise businesses to hire young people, the government should fix problem it created. By hiking employer NIC and piling on red tape, it’s more expensive and risky to hire. Businesses don’t need handouts from the state, they need freedom to grow

@OctopusEnergy That's good to know, but doesn't really address the point above. Having been a customer for just under 9 years now, if the discount doesn't match that being given to customers who joined just two months ago then it won't really say much for loyalty.

@OctopusEnergy In February when the export rate was reduced 20%, octopus stated they try to do the opposite of the customer loyalty penalty. Given that those people on fixed IOG are seeing their off peak rate reduced from 7p to 3.5p, if those of us on variable IOG (by virtue of simply being customers for longer and seeing out our previous fixed periods) that are also currently paying the same 7p rate do not receive the same discount then those words about trying to avoid the customer loyalty penalty are going to ring pretty hollow...

@LufieAlicepa @BellaWallerstei The government wouldn't receive the employer NIC, but they would receive employee paye which they didnt before, and they wouldn't pay as much in benefits. What exactly are you questioning here?

@Phil_Jones01 @J34JEAN @TiceRichard Do you have an ISA? If so, do you voluntarily pay tax on the interest received? If you do not voluntarily pax tax on your ISA interest, then your morality argument is shot.

@PandaCzarna @ajcdeane It isnt. The very large increases in minimum wage and employers NI are driving businesses to move faster toward ai and automation than ever before. There is still demand for jobs to be done, just a shift in how many actually require humans.

Sorry, I couldn't make it past point 1. How on earth does it cost £158,000 to house a family of 3 for a year?? Three grand a week?? There are literally millions of families larger than this paying mortgages, energy bills, food bills, council tax and more on a taxed income of less than a third of that. You can get an all inclusive 4 star beach resort hotel 14 night break during the school holidays from Jet 2 for £1800 a week for a family of 3, so how on God's green earth do you manage to make single room with a bunk bed in Birmingham cost £3k a week. How?
Shabana Mahmood MP@ShabanaMahmood

Our pilot of new incentives to remove failed asylum seeking families will save taxpayers up to £20 million. Here's why 👇 1. It costs 158k to put up a family of 3 in an asylum hotel for 1 year. It costs 48k more to forcibly remove someone. A 10k per person incentive, up to a max of 40k per family, will save money. 2. If someone refuses an incentive, we will move to a forced removal. If you have no right to be in this country, you should not be allowed to stay. 3. There is nothing new about incentive payments. The Tories did it. Even Reform say they will do it. 4. Higher incentives have worked in Denmark. 95% of returns there are voluntary. 5. These incentives are not a pull factor. Asylum claims in Denmark are at a 40-year low. And asylum seekers spend tens of thousands of pounds getting to this country, that's more than any incentive payment. 6. This is a pilot of 150 families. We will see if it works and scale it if it does. That's taking a smart approach, that saves taxpayers' money, to restoring order at our borders. I make no apology for doing that.

That's quite the deflection. Our state school is 30% below national average. Indeed the entire county is below national average. Im buying education at a facility with results that are on par with state schools that millions of people access for "free". My choice was put my children in a state school with significantly poorer than average results, or use my fortunate position to get them what they should (and would if we lived elsewhere) get provided by state.

@IrritableChris @SLK_2017 You can't answer on someone else's behalf and I would dispute that you are punished. You are buying advantage with your children more likely to get into Oxbridge. When my eldest started at our local senior school it was rated 'needs improvement'. 1/2

If they are here illegally, why do they need to be offered anything to leave??? Its like going into Tesco and filling a trolley with goods you have no intention of paying for, and them saying "we'll let you keep the Bollinger and the T-bone if you leave now". Its beyond madness.

Labour doesn’t seem to realise that offering failed asylum seekers £40,000 to leave creates a £40,000 incentive to come to Britain to be a failed asylum seeker

I'll answer Alex. I didnt choose state school for my children (the same one I went to 40 years ago), because its results are shockingly below average. Im in the fortunate position that I can afford to buy a decent education. The same level others get for free, and im punished for doing so. Here's a question for you. How does the state school you use for your children compare to national averages? How does your house price compare to both national average and the same house in an area nearby with sub par results? This is the real inequality in education for millions, a significant proportion of the "94%". Though I suspect you dont wish to acknowledge this necause you're alright Jack.

@SLK_2017 Do you not think the plans for funding SEND are an improvement? You have both clearly been successful from your working class backgrounds, why did you decide this wasn't good enough for your children? Obviously I understand this is a personal question so feel free not to reply.

You actively pushed division and hatred toward independent school children with your "our children deserve X more than private schools deserve Y" rhetoric, and your constant "I only care about the 94%" language, so forgive me if I call you an utter hypocrite when you now post about courage over hatred. You have actively destroyed the education and friendship groups of thousands of children, seen teachers and staff thrown on the dole, pushed send children back into a failing state provision and not shown an ounce of compassion for any of them at any time. You are not only an incompetent education secretary with little to no experience what so ever to justify your position, but moreover seemingly a spite filled, prejudiced, awful example of a human being.
Bridget Phillipson@bphillipsonMP

Jewish families across Britain celebrated Purim this week, a festival that speaks to the power of courage over hatred. We've seen school-related antisemitic incidences soar. This is unacceptable. We will back schools and colleges to tackle antisemitism. jewishnews.co.uk/government-lau…

@Semhlead Starting at 9, having an hour for lunch, two other breaks, knocking off at 3.30 and having 13+ weeks a year holiday with a six week summer break probably doesn't give ample preparation for a good work life balance either.

Homework embeds the idea of a poor work life balance from an early age, exhausts the child and tells them to expect the same for the next 40 years. And we wonder why people aren't entering the workplace and mental health in young people is so poor.
Adrian Bethune@AdrianBethune

Homework should be abolished (or significantly reduced) because it promotes this unhealthy idea to children that you work all day in the day *AND THEN* you do more work at home. Basically, children are taught to mimic the working patterns of teachers. Discuss. 🤔
