“the universe is out to get me.” i constantly had to fight this feeling when playing poker full time. i’d get it all in pre with aces against kings for $50k and lose. i’d run like god at $20/40, and take a shot in a $100/200 game and lose 3 month’s profit. i’d find a light 4bet from the small blind, knowing the pro on the button was 3betting too wide, and get 5bet jammed on by the nit in the big blind. the mental toll poker takes on you can be absolutely brutal. and i found it natural to play the victim: the poker gods hate me. how do i run this bad? how does THAT GUY always run good? what i found was the more i leaned into this mentality, the worse i played. because if the universe was out to get me anyway, who the fuck cares if i make the perfect decision, right? i’m not a big whoo whoo mental game guy, but i do believe allowing myself to wallow in self pity negatively affected my edge, which exacerbated the vicious cycle. distancing myself from this mindset was arguably more difficult than actually getting good at the game.

@griddlocked I’m literally just some follower but would love to talk about being the lone masker/cc person in all the live poker I play for hundreds of hours each year across home games and casinos

or maybe i could interview cc oomfs on how they participate/interact with the culture. i’m curious to see if telling the story of how/why they chose to adapt would help change non maskers minds??
