Most problems in life are caused by 1 to 2 factors. As I think about California, almost every single problem from pensions, to roads, to taxes all point to one problem: housing. Just build a lot more, get rid of all the NIMBY idiots and you will start to see all other problems disappear.

@RoKhanna @friedberg @chamath I don’t think people are opposed to the 5% tax as much as people are opposed to giving that money to the California govt which is the most fiscally irresponsible govt the world has ever seen.

So putting aside the rhetorical flourish, you genuinely believe that a 1 percent tax on billionaires wealth for 5 years will kill the SV economy? Honest question. Or your concern is if that is expands to beyond that? Even @chamath has eloquently recognized that those with extreme wealth must do more for society given the backlash and angst people feel.

Peter Thiel is leaving California if we pass a 1% tax on billionaires for 5 years to pay for healthcare for the working class facing steep Medicaid cuts. I echo what FDR said with sarcasm of economic royalists when they threatened to leave, "I will miss them very much."

@ylecun @AlexGertzUSA This has in fact happened many times where nuclear bombs have been accidentally dropped on civilians and thankfully nothing detonated.

Turbojets enable the dropping of monstrous thermonuclear bombs anywhere in the world. That's very real, and we've lived with it for 70 years. The same can be said of rocket technology. We've lived with that for 60 years. For AI, the argument is very, very, very speculative and concerns a technology that does not yet exist.

One cannot show that turbojets are safe before actually building turbojets and carefully refining them for reliability. The same goes for AI.

We hired the most popular “design guy” on X for $5k/month. He spent a week on our logo. Our company name has 4 letters and he made a typo in it. Simple iterations took days and didn’t improve at all. We cancelled immediately. That one logo (still not sure we’ll use) cost us $1,250. I can’t see him finishing the entire app in one month. What a waste of time and money.
