@warwickmansell A missed opportunity for someone with new ideas and enthusiasm. And someone less divisive. Love to know the benefit of the £10 million he was given. Especially as behaviour seems to be getting worse!

BREAKING: The Prime Minister has announced a new national inquiry into grooming gangs. Sir Keir Starmer told reporters on the plane to Canada he had accepted a recommendation by Baroness Louise Casey after reading ‘every single word’ of her report.

In GM, we want an education system based on parity between academic and technical with clear paths for all our young people. We have made a major breakthrough. From September, through the #MBacc, we will open up new routes into public services: @NHS_GM and the @BeeNetwork. 1/2

@warwickmansell They never worked for me . I was just reflecting on speed awareness . A punishment for a rule break . You see the impact of what you have done instantly . It’s an inconvenience but it can change behaviour and give opp to reflect . Detentions need to have the same intent ?

Do detentions work? Just asking as we live and breathe this debate as a family at the moment. So I wonder if people can point me towards any academic studies which answer the pertinent q: are detentions effective, for the individuals sanctioned; and for other pupils?

1 in 3 support staff verbally abused every day. Yet frequently they are the lowest paid and least trained members of staff, despite being responsible for the most challenging students. A predictably chaotic situation. theguardian.com/education/2024…

Smallest GLW’s school friend has a broken leg & is allowed to miss 15 minutes lessons to leave school early. He can choose a friend to help him. He’s been inviting kids to pay him to be the “friend” who gets to leave school early.

Interesting to hear Tom Bennett on the radio over the weekend, stating what schools should do on mobile phones. I thought he was all for leaving things to leadership teams' professional judgement? (Have experienced variety of approaches to this at children's schools).

@joshuaseigal Is contracted with DfE to lead on the (Conservative government's) Behaviour Hubs policy, until I think next year. So will remain a DfE adviser at least until then, I think.

Certainly a question to answer for the MAT sector on this, given the increasing prominent of the structure in education in England, the nationwide picture on staff retention, and the specifics of teacher turnover in the chains as evidenced recently by the EPI report.

Serious question. After 14 years of Tory government can anyone identify any positive education policy or initiative?

The Sun reports that @IcelandFoods are replacing the cross on a hot cross bun with a tick. The chain’s David Lennox said: “According to the research, it seems some people want to do away with the cross design and move to a tick instead. The results surprised us, but in true British fashion, we’re putting it to the test by trialling ticks on some of our buns.” I am conflicted about this: - I first thought it was an April Fool's joke. - Then I thought it was just a marketing stunt to try and cause outrage from Christians and traditionalists. - Then I reflected on the inclusion and diversity angle - how would other religious groups have felt if their primary religious symbol on a traditional food was replaced. - Then I thought about the strange contradiction that the cross, the method of execution used to kill Jesus, was on a sweet bun in the first place. Even in my life as a follower of Jesus and someone who enjoys hot cross buns; the eating of them doesn't play a devotional or reflective function to me. So there's no reason for outrage as the cross was just a decoration for a sweet treat. The cross of Christ is the most precious symbol in my life as it says that Jesus loved me enough to willingly die for me. Perhaps it cheapened the impact of this to have it on a bun in the first place? What do you think ?

Paddy McGuinness, "James Daly you saying to Wes Streeting that Keir Starmer will say anything to get a vote, is a bit rich coming from a Tory" "Where's there £350 million a week for the NHS?"
