Of course, this is still a first draft, subject to change… but I feel good about it. Even considering the taboo subject matter and how that manifests. Very delicate work, that.
Oh, and the whole story takes place inside of 24 hours. Maybe even less than 12.

This is more of a tightrope job than I remember any of my previous stories being. Three characters, and I’m using third-person headhopping this time around. I’m guessing this may wind up around 18K-20K words… most of which are sex scenes that directly develop the characters.
“Promises Kept” has now crossed 6200 words, with two out of an estimated four sections remaining.
It’s taken a couple of unanticipated turns, but so far it’s sticking fairly close to the outline. I did have to watch a handful of research clips, though. 😜

A little snippet from “Promises Kept,” which I’m trying really hard to differentiate from the same old same old in the genre. PI-adjacent, but I’m not sure if it’ll really cross that line.

Currently working on some “different” (I hope) stepcest: a power struggle between a helicopter stepdad and his college-age stepdaughter, escalating out of control because neither of them will back down.
Working title: “Promises Kept.”

The first time I ever saw myself was in fiction. The first time I ever felt safe to be seen was through fiction.
For #TransDayOfVisibility, I want to recognize the #romance & #erotica authors who *see* us.
Some are sisters/brothers, some are allies, but all are friends. 🏳️⚧️
@JenReadsRomance The X Ingredient by Rosalyn Sinclair does a great job of turning the trope on its head by making the subordinate dominant in the bedroom. Or maybe that's common in the sub-genre. Regardless, it's a great f/f romance, and perfectly steamy.
@CynthiaSax@JenReadsRomance Oh, yeah. I loved writing a certain short story about a woman who was intimidated as hell by her crush and had trouble believing she wasn’t imagining the signals she was picking up.
@JenReadsRomance Single POV is great when a love interest has to be a bit mysterious, when there should be some doubt about his or her intentions, etc.
@JenReadsRomance I love playing with imperfect perception between different narrators. My first novel ended up showing the same conversation from both sides, and both speakers heard one line just a little differently.
I have a hypothetical question for any sissies out there who genuinely want to find a permanent master/owner. Apply whatever terminology you like – owner, master, dominant, top, et al. – but what matters here is that you are an AMAB submissive... tmblr.co/ZB4kVlZaIlgray…
I just realized that Bewitched is all about cocaine.
She twitches her nose and magic happens and also she’s paranoid about people snooping around trying to uncover her secret and when one sugar daddy is no good anymore she just gets another and acts like nothing happened.
TFW you need to plant some main character development seeds in the outline for a sex scene and by the time you’re done, you’ve got a great handle on the secondary character’s mindset and attitude.

Perhaps 2021 can be the year we finally stop attaching such cosmic importance to the exact configurations of the flesh people have between their legs.
Our genitals have nothing to do with our intelligence, ability to love, or value as people.
