It has been the privilege of my life to serve as the Chancellor of the Exchequer. I said when I was appointed Chancellor that I would judge my time in office if the lives ordinary working class people have been improved. I’m proud to say that they have. And to every young woman and girl let my time in office show there should be no ceilings on your ambitions, your hopes or your dreams. I wish the very best of luck to my successor, Andy and his cabinet. You have my full support, and I will continue to play my part in helping this Labour government deliver the change the country needs.

FWIW, Tuchel was right to be defensive. England barely had the ball, low XG and the goal was a freak. If you don't understand that, you don't watch enough football. Moving to 5 at the back probably messed up shape, but the idea you should just go after Argentina is idiotic.

Yes, England were too defensive. But the abuse pouring down on Thomas Tuchel’s head today is ridiculous. He was 5 minutes away from leading us into our first World Cup Final in 60 years. And if we’d hung on, he’d be lauded a hero today by the same people trashing him.

I will curb my language but that tweet is disgusting. You profess to be an advocate of human rights, and the right to be treated with dignity after death is a basic human right everyone should have, yet you rejoice in her death. Yes, her religion guided her views on equality issues, and I had many disagreements with her, but as a gay man I counted her as a friend, as did many others. She was actually a profoundly kind person. She endorsed my candidacy knowing of my sexuality. She softened her views on equal marriage and told me in 2019 she would not support reversing it. So be ashamed of yourself today, Peter. You do some great work, but in this instance it's you that's the bigot.
