At school, I learnt that maternal mortality rates were a reliable indicator of a country’s level of socioeconomic development & the effectiveness of their health system.
It is truly shocking that the UK’s maternity deaths have increased by 50% over the past decade.

Dr Elaine is the UK’s first deaf/blind doctor. She is under multiple specialists in London. She is on 24 hour LTOT.
Her request to be pre-allocated to London was declined and was allocated Dorset.
This is a catastrophic failure by the @UKFPO, who simply isn’t hated enough.

Yesterday a nurse home visit was arranged to go to my elderly mothers home, while there visiting, the nurse arrived a Muslim woman who asked me to put my dogs away, as she did not like dogs.
I told her, if you don't like dogs then leave & go send out a Nurse who does.
Tough.

Today I am celebrating 17 years of working as an Emergency Medicine Consultant in the busiest ED in the UK, while living with #Parkinsons for nearly 10 years of them.
At diagnosis this was just a pipe dream.

Strange how you don’t seem to care so strongly for the 1000s of patients suffering and dying outside of any strike action due to routine failures of managing healthcare.
Doctors are the canaries in the coal mines. We’re crying out for a fix to the daily danger of poor workforce planning and losing all of the taxpayer funded medical students to Australia.
Time for you to stop scapegoating doctors and show some leadership.

This motion defending the rights of trans and intersex people and condemning the Supreme Court's ruling on the definition of a woman was passed at Saturday's @BMAResidents Conference - thank you to these residents. The EHRC guidance arising from this ruling is deeply problematic.

@TTeulu @MichelePaduano There are clearly institutional issues at play here & so an Article 2 inquest is appropriate. In that context I also don't understand why it wasn't admissible. Was it ever appealed?

@MichelePaduano The last time I was in the Coroners court, they can't apportion blame to an individual.
And they don't get involved with professional differences of opinion
But that was 5 years ago..
But the Law doesn't change that much over time

I still do not understand how Vaish’s suicide note was ruled inadmissible at inquest.
It expressly identified who was bullying her and named the hospital.

I don't want ANY of you to forget the story of Dr. Vaish Kumar @VaishFamily And the response from @NHSE_WTE when I raised it with @uhbtrust -as part of efforts to shut anything down. I was the national lead -at that time- with a remit to tackle issues of #racism in medical workforce-eps around ethnic minority doctors... It ended with @NHSEngland CEO having to apologise to me after pushback with all the privileges I held- and the person concerned having to backtrack from any threats. And most importantly? Apologies to the family with the unbearable loss-after months of denial & obfuscation Such individuals will never have doctors welfare at their heart. @DrAndrewGreen @thomasdolphin I taught anatomy to both PAs & Med students. There was a huge difference in both breadth & depth. Also recall being surprised that I'd freq need to advise med students to avoid going into too much detail on some topics, whereas PAs barely even asked Qs.

I'm still a little puzzled by the idea that PA School is much more intense than medical school so they can cover much the same material in <1/2 the time. I seem to recall medical school being pretty intense, at least 9-5 for 5 days a week, with (IIRC) no summer break in years 3-5

We've received three new sets of formal #FitnessToPractise allegations today (1 x GMC, 2 x HCPC), all with the usual 28-day deadline notwithstanding the Christmas period. I just feel "Did you REALLY need to send those out less than 2 weeks before Christmas?". The GMC case relates to an incident in Spring 2023, the HCPC ones date back to Winter 2020 and Autumn 2022. Why is it necessary to destroy a healthcare professional's Christmas on top of them already enduring the FtP process for years? And when Christmas is already well-known to be a mental health risk point?

We are seeing huge increase in ‘That’s So Gay’ used as an insult, especially in primary schools.
I’m in a primary school in Cardiff today working with all of KS2 to develop understanding of what gay means, through the lens of family, to raise empathy & stop its use as an insult.
