slowly getting over from the dreaded jet-lag but so happy with how the shows went on the Wakeman & Son tour . Quite emotional at Red Bank which was my last appearance in one & two man shows in America . The 55 years have raced by. Thanks to everybody who has supported the music

@Davewwest Does this not encourage locally employed people to strike then? Just to upset the Government for treating them so badly?

DHSC says "this won't impact the overall number" of doctors because the training posts would have been converted from existing Locally Employed Doctor posts

48 hour cut-off for a deal not Metz says dhsc:  “Because the BMA Resident Doctor Committee has not agreed to call off these strikes and put an offer to members, we will now not be able to deliver the 1000 extra training places which the BMA asked for.

The mystery of the Victoria Sponge that never rose has been solved The scales was set on a unit that was not grams So whilst the proportions were right (eggs excepted) the quantities were tiny

@drokane @dave_dlt The reason we could cope with 3 day weekends in those days …..intakes were much more reasonable and we had the firm structure

@mancunianmedic The best and easiest Victoria Sponge I’ve found is Delia Smith’s. It does use baking powder as well as SR flour as raising agents, which means it doesn’t “keep” well, though that’s never caused a problem in my house!

In the last 5 days, I have received at least 15 enquiries from surgeons keen to move to 🇦🇺. I expect more. Both from those who have completed their training, and those who plan to finish & then immediately leave These are some of the hardest working, highly trained folk I know - and they’re planning to leave the #NHS “you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone" may be a cliche, but resident doctors and specialists are already in short supply in 🇬🇧. It’s only going to get worse now. Anyway, it’s autumn here, 30° and I just cooked dinner on the BBQ. just saying.

Military historians will really puzzle over this one: America and Israel attacked Iran and....this is the big mystery, Iran responded. I'm reading tweets that seem puzzled that this happened - even quite cross about it. And Trump is furious that Iran closed the Straits.

This has to be some kind of grim joke. Does Yvette Cooper not know that we've noticed that the Strait was closed as a result of the invasion. When there's a war, people do things like blockages, sieges, and counter-actions. The Strait was open before the war, Yvette.
Sky News@SkyNews

The UK's foreign secretary has condemned what she says is Iran's recklessness in blockading the Strait of Hormuz. Yvette Cooper is chairing a meeting of nations who are seeking to re-open the shipping lane. Iran war latest: trib.al/hd4jVg9 📺 Sky 501 and YouTube

@dave_dlt @DrJoFranklin Because we would do it safely / with a good research base but the cycle of Government doesn’t have the patience for that And they’ve been reading too much about disruptive innovation and think it’s the answer to everything Just remember why the GMC was set up in the first place

I must admit to being intrigued by the obvious change in how @NICEComms are changing - for good or bad. Most fascinated by this statement: "I'd encourage anyone who thinks they might be eligible to have a conversation with their GP at their next routine appointment" Has funding been secured? Is it ring fenced? Has it been agreed at each formulary level? Have pathways been agreed? Don't GP colleagues face ire if they can't give this- in spite of NICE saying 'go and ask'? Policies / approvals without funding is mostly good PR No? @kamleshkhunti @GoggleDocs @AbbieSBrooks @DrSteveTaylor @doctor_katie @BenAllenGP

We've recommended semaglutide (Wegovy) on the NHS to protect heart patients from a second heart attack or stroke. Here's what you need to know: nice.org.uk/news/articles/…

@drokane They’re not. But she makes it very clear that the cause of death was natural. There is nothing said about the conduct of individuals, therefore she isn’t blaming anyone. If she were at all concerned, she’d issue a PFD report and it seems that she isn’t going to do that

I see a lot of parallels in the way the Govt treat the medical profession with how they treat the legal profession. Make no mistake, once the 'swift court' comes in at Crown Court level, there will be attempts to dumb down who has rights of audience to conduct trials in it
Tim Lane 💙@MrTimLane

The plan has always been clear. A two-tier system. It has nothing to do with pay or Resident doctor’s industrial action. The government is happy to pay more to Physician Assistants than the Resident doctors they were supposed to be supporting. No Resident doctors today. No Consultants tomorrow. Simples.

@TTeulu I think my point is the group email directed at an individual, inviting a response to all involved in relation to a perceived wrong. As a senior doctor, I see this for what it is but a less experienced doctor would probably feel threatened and/or intimidated by the mass action

Yesterday morning, I received an emailed complaint, which had been processed by an external stakeholder and then sent on to me, with 7 others copied in to the email, all sounding managerial. I have duly responded, but this made me think- is this right? How does this land?

@LittlePersonDoc @parthaskar @HSJnews @RCPhysicians One would assume their annual financial auditors enquire about ongoing financial liability and risk. NHS is easy Charities like Colleges - somebody knows - hopefully the Colleges I will gently ask some elderly finance guys I used to work with….
