On 20-21 May, Sweden, as current chair, hosted the International Contact Group for the Great Lakes (ICG) with🇧🇪🇩🇰🇪🇺🇫🇷🇩🇪🇳🇱🇸🇪🇨🇭🇬🇧🇺🇸 in Stockholm. The meeting brought together Special Envoys, UNSE Xia @un_greatlakes, representatives of ongoing mediation efforts - including AU mediator Togo, Qatar and the US - alongside invited experts and @FBAFolke. The meeting demonstrated a shared commitment to coordinated international support for peace in the Great Lakes region. Ebola outbreak in eastern DRC & Uganda: our teams & partners are already in critical sites on the ground, strengthening surveillance, contact tracing & providing support in high-risk border areas.

🇪🇺 is working with @WHO @AfricaCDC on the #Ebola outbreak in the DRC & Uganda. EU-supported genomic sequencing helped identify the strain fast, our preparedness efforts are strengthening surveillance, clinical trial readiness & vaccine research. We are ready to do more.

Always a pleasure to meet Amb. Johan Borgstam, #EUSR for the Great Lakes Region. We discussed the #AU-EU shared commitment to supporting the lasting peace in the eastern #DRC. We agreed on the need for joint AU-EU action on focusing on a ceasefire and a return to the #Doha and #Washington peace tracks.

Pleased to co-convene last week’s important regional conference on lasting solutions for Burundian refugees. 7 governments & partners, incl refugees, discussed how to turn commitments into actions to help our Burundian brothers and sisters live dignified lives & find solutions.
