I used to roll my eyes at the notion of "decolonising the curriculum"—just harmless virtue signalling, I thought. Then October 7th happened, and colleagues I respected were celebrating a jihadist massacre within hours. Progressive friends were pinning all the blame on Israel. My new essay for @Quillette on how I was terribly wrong to be so insouciant. quillette.com/2026/04/20/wha…

Ro Khanna is on the Armed Services Committee AND the Select Committee on China - while defending Iran's nuclear program on national TV and co-chairing Bernie Sanders' campaign. The guy who wants to tax Silicon Valley's unrealized gains is sitting on the committee overseeing defense tech made by his own constituents. Think about it: CA-17 companies build the chips, the Al, the defense tech, the cybersecurity infrastructure that the China committee is supposed to be protecting. And their congressman is: On the China committee while aligned with Iran (China's ally) On Armed Services while voting against military authorization Pushing policies that will drive tech out of California: the very tech his committees are supposed to champion for national competitiveness Advocating mass asset seizure taxes on the founders building the technology edge against China That's not just bad representation. It's a structural conflict of interest at the national security level. The Select Committee on China exists to counter the CCP's tech ambitions. The member representing the actual center of American tech innovation is simultaneously trying to break up and tax the companies building that edge. Ro Khanna wants to destroy Silicon Valley and destroy the competitiveness of Amerian technology companies. Literally killing the golden goose. His craven lack of leadership is not just local: it has American national defense implications. And we need to vote him out of office.

This is how the EU/UK now regulates social media: 🤐 Offer CEOs secret deals to censor dissent. 🚨 If they refuse, open criminal cases against them. 😑 When people push back, say it's "all for the children". 🎭 "Protecting children" has become the standard legal/PR cover.

Disney just fired the man who designed the visual identity of the entire MCU. 16 years. $30 billion at the box office. And they replaced him with freelancers. I’m going to put all of Andy Park’s contributions in the comments so you realize who this man actually is.

Just so we're clear, here are John Fetterman's policy positions: Economy -- advocate for increasing taxes on the super rich and cutting them for middle class families, strong supporter of organized labor Education -- increased funding for public education, advocate for student loan forgiveness, opposes vouchers Healthcare -- supports expanding ACA, protecting Medicare and Medicaid Gun safety -- supports universal background checks, red flag laws Foreign policy -- opposes China, Russia, and Iran, advocate for continued support to Israel and Ukraine. Border/Immigration -- supporter of DACA, advocate for stronger border control. There is only one issue that separates him. ONE. Guess what issue that is.

Nothing better than a new preliminary injunction to start the day. “Arkansas cannot sentence speech on the internet to death by a thousand cuts.” — Judge Brooks, NetChoice v. Griffin (Act 900 PI)
NetChoice@NetChoice

🚨🚨👨‍⚖️ First Amendment to Arkansas: You “Cannot Sentence Speech on the Internet to Death by a Thousand Cuts” in NetChoice Court Victory FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.—Today, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Arkansas issued a preliminary injunction in NetChoice’s lawsuit against Arkansas Act 900, a cosmetic attempt by the state to update an online censorship law that has already been deemed unconstitutional by the courts. “Once again, the District Court hit the nail on the head. Left to its own devices, Arkansas would ‘sentence speech on the internet to death by a thousand cuts.’ Fortunately, the First Amendment prohibits such blatant speech restrictions,” said @Paul_Taske, Co-Director of the NetChoice Litigation Center. “We look forward to seeing the law ultimately struck down.” Taske continued: “Act 900 is deeply flawed. It burdens speech without providing any upside. Indeed, as the court recognized, there are non-tech, constitutional measures that could be taken to advance Arkansas's goals. But Arkansas chose to ignore the constitutional options available and opted to impose many vague restrictions on websites instead, interfering with user speech rights and jeopardizing user privacy by forcing websites to track their visitors and collect sensitive data just to comply with the State’s vague standards. We are pleased the court paused these unconstitutional provisions from going into effect as NetChoice’s lawsuit proceeds, ensuring that Arkansas parents and guardians, not the government, remain in the driver’s seat of their children’s online experiences.” In his decision, U.S. District Court Judge Timothy Brooks found that Act 900 likely violates Arkansans’ First Amendment rights, places sweeping surveillance provisions on digital services, and fails to provide clear provisions for online businesses to follow, making it unconstitutionally vague.

Kind of AMAZING that @mattyglesias and mostly everyone have forgotten that the Israeli Prime Minister made a UN speech calling for the 2-state solution in September of '22. It was answered with rockets... Nobody really cared.
Matthew Yglesias@mattyglesias

I’m aware that it isn’t hard and that many people have done it, but Israel’s political leadership over the past seventeen years has not. My claim, which is causing this whole meltdown in pro-Israel circles, is that this choice makes a difference to perceptions of Israel.

The arrogance is striking. There is, among supporters of the Jewish state, no “meltdown.” There is simply an awareness of history and the ripe culture medium, the psychological, even spiritual, climate, that gives rise to these periodic explosions of antisemitism. The bloodlettings that course through the millennia. Also striking, among a certain set of insider voices, is the willful blindness, the desire, almost palpable, to pretend that we have arrived at an end of history in which Jews are permitted to shed their otherness, to become yet another people among all the peoples. Of course, the response to the Israeli response to October 7 — the unparalleled and widespread outrage, the determination to transform a legitimate military action into a “genocide” — should disabuse us of such fictions. But Yglesias, like Ezra Klein, seems unwilling to be disabused — the better to float happily, if sheepishly, above the grit, the fray, the ugly underside of the human condition.

Tonight Michigan Dems ousted their incumbent - who is Jewish and faced antisemitic attacks - and instead nominated Amir Makled for the University of Michigan Board of Regents. Makled praised Hezbollah and thinks Jews are “demons” who shouldn’t be allowed to serve in Congress.

don't think I've written much about California redistricting either. For gerrymanders, they're not out of the ordinary (aside from doing them outside the typical timeframe). I have tweeted a lot about the obscene GOP pressure in Indiana and the Dems' Virginia map. The Virginia map would be one of the most egregious gerrymanders in the country -- alongside NC, IL and TN. It's about as ugly and antidemocratic as they get. The pressure on IN legislators, likewise, was antidemocratic and extreme -- and it ultimately backfired.

Palestinians have agency. They were offered exactly what you’re proposing numerous times and rejected it. At some point you need to articulate an endgame that doesn’t ignore this.
