@puj_rit @FixingEducation But with the SS reform, I bet the retirements will increase even more now! Any teachers who worked prior careers or had side jobs long enough to earn SS benefits are looking at a completely different retirement now. It has me reconsidering my remaining time in the classroom.

2018…More teachers resigned than any other year prior 2019…A new record # of resignations 2020…That # SURPASSED. 2021…AGAIN 2022…AGAIN 2023…Broke ALL previous records Questions: What was learned? Answer: ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! The career is simply no longer sustainable

@ModestTeacher They do. To teach at secondary you have to have a degree in your content. The issue is once teaching, pd focus nothing on content. Unless a teacher seeks out a greater understanding then content knowledge stops

Teacher training programs for subject specific teacher certs (mainly secondary teachers) needs to focus way more on content than they currently do. This shouldn’t be controversial but I’m sure it will be.

@ModestTeacher Many of us have practical industry skills that make us great teachers. I'm a business teacher with a BSBA in Accounting & Computer Info Systems, an MBA in Marketing, an MEd in Instructional Technology, and 7 years of experience in the field in addition to my 19 years of teaching!

@FixingEducation Schoolboard members should be required to sub a couple days a month to see the effect their decision have on schools and to see the reality if what schools truly need.

The expectations placed on teachers have evolved significantly over the past 40 years, even more so in the last 15. Yet, the student and teacher schedule has remained unchanged. It's time for education to adapt to the changing landscape.

@ModestTeacher There's so much packed into a very short few weeks - school deadlines, events for my own child, shopping for gifts, and decorating. I'm exhausted by the time vacation rolls around.

I really dislike Christmas. It is easily my least favorite holiday. Am I alone?!

@ModestTeacher I would love to spend time in the Ceramics room and disappear on the wheel for a while. I think it would be very therapeutic. I've taken classes before and miss it!

I wish I could take the foreign language and culinary classes our school offers. Think I could sneak in on my plan time?

@JamesAFurey I've done this for years. I'm finding that students now take it the first time to test the waters and see what they really need to study for the 2nd attempt. I need to make a policy change for next semester, I'm just not sure how I want to change it yet

I've long had a policy that any student can re-do a test if they show me evidence that they have re-studied the material, but if they do worse the second time around, that is the score they will be left with. I thought this was showing a considerable amount of grace yet would prevent kids from re-taking it simply in the hopes they'd luck out and score better. But, I think I'm done with this policy. Study the first time or fail.

@FixingEducation "self care" ... no one really cares about us. They just tell us to take care of ourselves to make themselves feel better. Do something meaningful to remove the added responsibilities that somehow landed on our plates. That would be a good first step!
