"Overall, Kromkowski’s satire is incisive, leaning on irony and cultural nods to critique political figures and policies, delivered with a sharp edge that invites reflection rather than overt moralizing."

@audiophilestyle @aaron_renn I don't even understand this. Can carpenters, plumbers and electricians use AI? ~300k die every year in US because of clinical iatrogenesis. Do you think AI will make that worse?

@aaron_renn How about this, your next surgery is done by a doctor who used AI to complete her assignments?

Telling people they can't use AI to complete an assignment or task is soon going to be seen as stupid as telling them they can't use Google.

@kjgillenwater @aaron_renn Because when you’re doing open heart surgery you can’t use ChatGPT. If you’re doing engineering and you don’t have access to those tools (yes that still happens) you need to actually know what you’re doing. Skills have to actually still exist. Not in every field, but for some.

@mattyglesias Idea anyone thinks H.Clinton (Kissinger fan) & K.Harris (lethality) were/are "left wing" makes no sense. Obama becoming more left is backwards: went from opposing Iraq to extrajudicial drone killings! Gay marriage? That's Libertarian, not left issue!

@PatrickRuffini Big problem with phones is the attention span issues. Shorter content, more addicting, specifically created to be as addicting as possible actually. Also comes down to graphics, content on phones (and tv nowadays) is high stimulation.

Back in the day, the panic was around people spending 4-6 hours a day watching TV. Why didn’t that have the corrosive effect that phones have had?

@JonahDispatch @anders_aslund The Electoral College should actually meet in person to pick a President by papal conclave rules. It should also meet once a year to entertain a possible motion of no confidence which, if passed by a majority, results in a new conclave.

@anders_aslund What country’s electoral system do you prefer? It’s not like most European countries directly elect a head of government/state.

@JamesSurowiecki @politicalmath Crim law is lagging indicator of moral dev of society in democracies. Diminished mens rea. Most abolitionists didn't seek crim punish for slave owners; many favored compensating owners over enslaved. Solicit murder ≠ murder 🤷‍♂️

@politicalmath What is the "theory of mind" that would explain why people who genuinely believe abortion is murder do not want women who have abortions punished as murderers (or solicitors of murder)?

@mattyglesias Well even philosopher should get more than one "literature" class. (And foreign language, some science, and mathematics.) Surely beyond your Russian lit class, you must have read Homer, Virgil, Dante, Chaucer, Cervantes, Goethe, Voltaire, and Joyce, et al.

I took one literature class in college, expecting to be treating to a lot of heavily ideological critical theory, but instead the professor just talked a lot about some excellent Russian novels.

@mattyglesias You got ripped off if your university claimed to be giving you a liberal arts education. Even economists should take a couple a literature classes.

@mattyglesias I wish David Trone the Total Wine guy in Maryland who spent $230+ per voter has just given everybody $200 store credit. I still wouldn't have voted for him but I could have gotten some great wine.

I find the idea that a rich guy spending lavishly in pursuit of personal power is inherently more ethical than normal politics to be disturbing.

I made a quick map showing college education by state. Four-year degrees are really not *that* common, at least not as much as people assume. Only 11 states are ≥40%, and just one, Massachusetts, has a majority.
