@WatchMyReview It’s just tough to blame the depth when the superstars don’t show up.
Matthews/Marner basically always had a supporting cast of Tavares/Nylander. Which is better than anything McDavid/Draisaitl had.
Then some mix of Knies, Hyman, Kadri, ROR, etc. and still couldn’t get it done.

Edna gets this response a ton. Yet if you look around the NHL teams that have stars that are FAR superior in the playoffs than the core 4 are adding far more support scoring to help in the playoffs.
Does McDavid/Draisaitl need support? By defnition no. They are amazing. But Edmonton does add them.

@WatchMyReview The reason they lost by lack of goals every year in the playoffs is because their generational offensive players turned into 3rd liners every single time. No amount of Nick Robertsons on the bench watching Matthews hit Bobrovsky in the chest is going to fix that

With a regulation loss against the Senators, and St. Louis beating Vancouver, the Leafs are just four points up on the Blues for fifth-last in the league. The Blues also have two games in hand.
The Jets and Sharks are just behind the Leafs and just ahead of the Blues as well.

@zoltanxvamos @domluszczyszyn The concern wasn’t that he’s slowing down soon, it’s the timing of when the Leafs will be a contender again.
Also Kucherov is 32 years old and has always been significantly better than Nylander. Not much comparison to be made there. haha

Worth noting that the godawful "piss and snot" team still went further in the playoffs than the five years where we mostly did things the way the "smart" people wanted. The one playoff series win in that time also came on the heels of a trade deadline many of those folks hated.

@feedthefish79 Perhaps, but he’s also 25 years old and played at a 50 point pace throughout his career.
Not sure what the urgency to give up on him is, the Leafs aren’t exactly loaded with young skilled players.
Low-risk, high-upside play to at least give him more of a runway imo.

How much does the back part of that deal really matter to them?
Also they have very little assets to use to improve through trade, getting a guy like Tuch through UFA without having to give up anything would be nice.

I really hope Leafs don't go for Tuch. IMO, he will be available to the highest bidder.

I just took that as his own personal standard for his teammates I guess, not that it necessarily always happened.

@JDrew03 He's one of the less egregious examples because he'd do it himself at times, sure. But it wasn't frequently enough for the team to not have that reputation on the whole, and in this clip he talks about having four guys with him, which basically never happened in Van lol.

Man, I loved that era of the Canucks, but that Canucks core got ripped all the time for being like this Leafs core in this way. There are *so* many ex-player media voices this week who are high-horsing despite themselves or their teams being in these exact same spots in the past.
