@preta_6 Why do I suspect that if Scheer was forced to drive an EV, that would be a win for someone like Coffey?

@JGFountain @Smileyyeg When’s the last time the media told Canadians they should like a CPC leader? Harper? They’ve hated every leader since then

Responses from conservatives to my argument that Poilievre should step down have convinced me he should not. If he is that loved among conservative supporters we should stick with him. Canadians don't like him, but they don't like us either.

@JGFountain @PaulChampLaw Rehabilitating prisoners IS for the safety and security of the rest of us. Ensuring they have employable skills and better mental health on release is in our best interests to reduce recidivism.

Premier Ford’s comment about overcrowding in Ontario jails - “I don’t care if you stack them 10 high” - is despicable. Putting someone in jail holds them accountable. Treating them inhumanly says the govt also doesn’t respect law (or decency). How does that serve rehabilitation?

@Martyupnorth "I hereby humbly renounce my former affiliation with scoundrels and malcontents, I regret my spreading of unclean rightist ideas, and welcome the liberation of The Party and the Illumination of our Dear Leader." All they need now is a little book. Red's a nice colour.

We just witnessed a week-long humiliation ritual. If you don't know, a humiliation ritual, in the context of modern politics, refers to a public, symbolic act of degradation that a politician is required to perform. It serves as a loyalty test and control mechanism. The individual must publicly renounce or contradict their past beliefs, values, and affiliations in front of the new group's supporters. This demonstrates total submission to the new hierarchy, severs ties with their old base, and signals undying loyalty. It's often in a staged, media-amplified way that feels humiliating to observers. The "ritual" aspect comes from the ceremonial, broadcast nature of the event—think forced apologies, awkward endorsements, or celebratory appearances that make the switch look like a public groveling. Marilyn Gladu, a longtime Conservative MP, was known as one of the most outspoken social conservatives and Liberal critics in the House of Commons. She had supported positions like reopening debate on abortion, opposing certain Liberal social policies (e.g., conversion therapy bans in their prior form), aligning with aspects of the Freedom Convoy/vaccine skepticism, and criticizing floor-crossing itself. In early 2026, she even backed requiring by-elections for floor crossers and called Liberals untrustworthy amid scandals. On April 8, 2026, she suddenly crossed the floor to join Prime Minister Mark Carney’s Liberal caucus. What was her ritual? She had to publicly renounce her past stances. That was immediately followed by a high-profile, camera-ready appearance at the Liberal National Convention in Montreal, where she was paraded, took selfies with Carney and cabinet, and delivered remarks calling the move the "best thing" for her riding, the country, and herself, while "stealing the show" in what looked like a victory lap for the party she had fiercely opposed. This was seen as the ultimate public betrayal and submission. An ardent right-winger, suddenly waking up as a Liberal, performing loyalty in front of the very crowd she once attacked, all without facing a by-election she had previously advocated for others. Last week I wondered about the timing of this floor crossing, given the upcoming byelections. I thought to myself "why risk pissing off the public, when the majority is already just around the corner". I think the prospect of humiliating Gladu at the convention was just too big to pass up. What are your thoughts.

In the span of a year, Mark Carney has morphed into a world leader willing to lay out a plan for small powers like Canada to collaborate and counter the economic might of the U.S. and China. He has also surprised Canada as a smooth political operator. on.wsj.com/4cxMuOp

@MarcPatrone The one upside of having someone as dim as Joly in government is that occasionally they say the quiet part out loud.

My partner and I have just been watching a @youtube video about the END of the Second World War. Dude. Americans didn’t end it! The Canadians, the British, the Dutch, and the French et al ended it. WTF are you talking about???

@poorme_ca @ShaziGoalie I'm pretty sure it's natural, just more constrained usually as a matter of self-interest. Now that he's King, there's nothing holding him back. Get used to this version.

That’s a hard watch! Did Carney take lessons on being arrogant, or is it natural??? This is no place for sustained humour in today’s Canada, a bit of smiles is fine, but when the leader of Canada makes jokes and pointed, untrue facts about the opposition, he has degraded question period into a damn waste of time!

CANADA’S BIGGEST DEBATE RIGHT NOW 🇨🇦 Pierre Poilievre says Canadians are being crushed by taxes, debt, housing costs, and grocery prices. Mark Carney says wages are rising faster than inflation, rents are easing, and Canada is positioned for strong growth. Both sides came loaded with numbers. Both say they’re fighting for Canadians. So I’ll ask this neutrally: Who’s telling the real story of Canada right now and who’s selling a narrative? 👀

@Markfry809 I don't recall asking him to spend us another $120 billion into debt. If that's what you voter for, though, congratulations.

Our Prime Minister isn’t feuding with the Pope. Neither is he portraying himself as Jesus, picking fights with NATO or causing chaos throughout the world. he’s just doing what the voters asked 🇨🇦

@SandraCobena_ $80 billion deficit? Or $40 billion in 'investments'? But he's behaving 'responsibly' in regards the deficit. Yeah. Sure.

The truth is out. The prime minister is counting on the surge of gas prices to make a dent on his $80 billion deficit. They overspend. You pay. You pay when you fill up. You pay when you check out. You pay for their overspending #cdnpoli

New Abacus Data: Canadians see one threat above all others right now, and it’s not domestic. 31% say Donald Trump and U.S. trade policy is the top threat to their quality of life. 46% include it in their top two. Nothing else comes close. abacusdata.ca/what-canadians…

.@MarkJCarney on his 1st day in the HoC with an unelected majority gov’t. Lording it over the opposition. Admonishing them as students. Says wages are outpacing inflation & Canadians are getting ahead. Laughing about it. Vulgar. Isolated from reality. This is going to get worse. Oh, the Liberal arrogance…

@RMC19861987 @MarkJCarney It is just me? I found our Prime Minister's attitude toward Canadians to be very arrogant. His comments were highly offensive, as he appeared to be laughing at the struggles many Canadians face just to make it to the end of the month. This is disgusting, to say the least.
