Counsel @PhillipKarugaba responds to Attorney General @KiryowaKk's presentation yesterday before the committee on legal affairs. He debunks the argument that the bill will only focus and affect foreign agents as referenced to section 22 of the Protection of Sovereignty bill.

Ssemujju demands humane enforcement of trade policies Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda urged government to implement the trade order with a “human face,” saying future operations must avoid harassment and abuse of traders. He questioned the use of non-official actors during enforcement, saying the conduct described could not be attributed to police or the military. Photo by Parliament

// @KawalaRachael "Police at Kabalagala have registered a serious road traffic accident that occurred on 15/04/2026 at about 0900 hours at Ggaba Trading Centre, between Maranatha Primary School and Maranatha High School. The accident involved motor vehicle registration number UU 00067 T, a Toyota Hiace (Drone), and a pedestrian identified as Mulwana Ronald, a 28-year-old male journalist. It is alleged that the vehicle, which was transporting a suspect identified as Okello developed a brake failure upon reaching the Mobile Court premises, causing it to knock down the pedestrian. The victim was rushed to Mulago Hospital for medical treatment. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.

In our evening session at Kyankwanzi, I warned that corruption will not be tolerated. Those involved are on notice and decisive action will be taken. Leaders, especially in Parliament, must reject bribery and serve with integrity. I also appreciate our partners, including Rt. Hon. Hassan Omar of the United Democratic Alliance of Kenya, for emphasising the need to overcome fragmented markets and policies in order to achieve Africa’s prosperity. Retreats like these are important for renewing commitment to our mission of national transformation. I congratulate the MPs on the successful retreat.

@norbertmao Reforms to benefit who? Are reforms what Uganda needa at this juncture! We have plenty of good laws but they are abused by a section of folks who feel more powerful than them. Reform or no reform, same story, for as long as the same folks are blindly trusted to implement them😉

After 30 years it is time for an inclusive, transparent and comprehensive review of the Constitution. Nevertheless, this is not the time for piecemeal constitutional changes. Both the Parliament and the Executive agree on this. The Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs through the Law Reform Commission has compiled a rack of Constitutional Reform Proposals including the extended tenure of the National Assembly. But the timing of Constitutional Reforms is a political process requiring political will. We expect that the process will not get stalled in the next five years.

Fellow Ugandans, especially the Bazzukulu, following a scientific assessment by our CBRN team, I have written to Matongo Wood Works Company confirming that traditional wooden food containers made from omunyama (mahogany) and omusisa (albizia) are safe and durable. I have directed support for this initiative so that we free ourselves from the colonial habit of relying on fragile and unsafe ebyatika (the breakables). Our indigenous knowledge systems served our people well for generations. It is time to consciously revive and promote them as part of building a self-reliant and modern Ugandan economy.
