The Manatee Viewing Center is once again in the running for USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards for Best Free Attraction. For the fourth year in a row, the MVC has been selected by a panel of travel experts—and after finishing second the past three years, we’re hoping this is the year we take the top spot. Manatee County had three presentations at the Governor’s Hurricane Conference last week, highlighting areas of strength, innovation, and resilience following the 2024 hurricane season. Public Safety Emergency Management shared how their partnership with Peregrine is transforming data reporting and decision-making. Charlie Hunsicker, Director of Natural Resources, participated in a panel discussing the sand sifting efforts and beach restoration projects following storm surge impacts from Hurricane Helene. Members of our Communications team presented on disaster social media messaging and the importance of delivering accurate, timely information when communities need it most. Sharing lessons learned isn’t just an opportunity, it’s part of our responsibility as public servants. By collaborating and exchanging ideas, municipalities and agencies can strengthen preparedness, improve response efforts, and better serve the communities counting on us during times of uncertainty.
