Allen Iverson earned over $154 million in NBA salary and still lost his Atlanta mansion to the bank... The former Philadelphia 76ers guard and 2001 NBA Most Valuable Player built a massive estate on Atlanta's exclusive West Paces Ferry Road in 2009, sinking $4.5 million into the property. According to TMZ, the nearly 10,000-square-foot mansion was described in its listing as "one of, if not the finest, private gated estates ever to become available in Atlanta." It had a custom bar, gourmet kitchen, and a master suite with a spa-style bathroom. Iverson lived there with his wife Tawanna and their five children. But financial troubles had been building for years. According to multiple reports, Iverson defaulted on a $1.2 million mortgage on the property. Despite his attempts to fight the foreclosure in court, he could only delay the inevitable. In February 2013, the home was auctioned off, and Georgia Primary Bank, the mortgage holder, purchased it for $2.5 million, a loss of $2 million from what Iverson had originally invested in building it. This wasn't even his first foreclosure. In 2011, Iverson had also lost a $3.875 million mansion in Cherry Hills, Colorado, that he'd purchased while playing for the Denver Nuggets, after defaulting on that mortgage as well. A Georgia judge also garnished a portion of his wages to settle a six-figure jewelry debt. His highly publicized divorce from Tawanna made things even more complicated, with a judge awarding her full custody of their children. Reports later revealed that Iverson actually has tens of millions locked in a trust fund from his Reebok deal that he cannot access until age 55. He earned a fortune that most people cannot imagine, but financial discipline proved to be the one skill no coach could teach him.
