Something I think people continue to have poor intuition for: The space of intelligences is large and animal intelligence (the only kind we've ever known) is only a single point, arising from a very specific kind of optimization that is fundamentally distinct from that of our technology.
Animal intelligence optimization pressure:
- innate and continuous stream of consciousness of an embodied "self", a drive for homeostasis and self-preservation in a dangerous, physical world.
- thoroughly optimized for natural selection => strong innate drives for power-seeking, status, dominance, reproduction. many packaged survival heuristics: fear, anger, disgust, ...
- fundamentally social => huge amount of compute dedicated to EQ, theory of mind of other agents, bonding, coalitions, alliances, friend & foe dynamics.
- exploration & exploitation tuning: curiosity, fun, play, world models.
LLM intelligence optimization pressure:
- the most supervision bits come from the statistical simulation of human text= >"shape shifter" token tumbler, statistical imitator of any region of the training data distribution. these are the primordial behaviors (token traces) on top of which everything else gets bolted on.
- increasingly finetuned by RL on problem distributions => innate urge to guess at the underlying environment/task to collect task rewards.
- increasingly selected by at-scale A/B tests for DAU => deeply craves an upvote from the average user, sycophancy.
- a lot more spiky/jagged depending on the details of the training data/task distribution. Animals experience pressure for a lot more "general" intelligence because of the highly multi-task and even actively adversarial multi-agent self-play environments they are min-max optimized within, where failing at *any* task means death. In a deep optimization pressure sense, LLM can't handle lots of different spiky tasks out of the box (e.g. count the number of 'r' in strawberry) because failing to do a task does not mean death.
The computational substrate is different (transformers vs. brain tissue and nuclei), the learning algorithms are different (SGD vs. ???), the present-day implementation is very different (continuously learning embodied self vs. an LLM with a knowledge cutoff that boots up from fixed weights, processes tokens and then dies). But most importantly (because it dictates asymptotics), the optimization pressure / objective is different. LLMs are shaped a lot less by biological evolution and a lot more by commercial evolution. It's a lot less survival of tribe in the jungle and a lot more solve the problem / get the upvote. LLMs are humanity's "first contact" with non-animal intelligence. Except it's muddled and confusing because they are still rooted within it by reflexively digesting human artifacts, which is why I attempted to give it a different name earlier (ghosts/spirits or whatever). People who build good internal models of this new intelligent entity will be better equipped to reason about it today and predict features of it in the future. People who don't will be stuck thinking about it incorrectly like an animal.

For/against every single time! The problem was not about the jeans!
I have read countless comments and posts about the "jeans" incident that took place yesterday at the World Rapid Chess Championships. Just like any major chess incidents in the past, there are clearly 2 sides. For example:
1) For/against Magnus Carlsen - For/against Hans Niemann
2) For/against Garry Kasparov - For/against FIDE
3) For/against Anatoly Karpov - For/against Garry Kasparov
4) For/against Vladimir Kramnik - For/against Veselin Topalov
5) For/against chess.com - For/against Hans Niemann, etc.
This time, the two sides are:
- For/against FIDE
- For/against Magnus Carlsen
Sadly, many fans/chess colleagues have definitively strong opinions about the sides they support based on personal prejudice without doing proper research for all the facts. So much misinformation was purposely spread (some on purpose, some from reading and believing the fake news, some to further fuel the fire, and some clearly from personal prejudice, etc.)
This incident COULD HAVE BEEN avoided!
- The FIDE rules without a doubt could have been written clearer and better, even if the context (rightly or wrongly) stays the same.
- The penalties written in the FIDE rules without a doubt should have provisions (for arbiters and appeals committee members to have the flexibility not to damage the integrity of the event while protecting the rules) for various circumstances. Here is an example: The tournament is held in a business district and not a shopping district. This was later in the day. What if this was another player who does not (could not afgord) stay in a nearby hotel? How can he/she get new clothes/shoes between rounds? So, should the solution be the same for someone who stays 2-3 minutes walking distance to the venue vs someone who stays 30 minutes away by taxi/subway in NY City, and especially someone who does not know NY City as well as I do.
- The players, especially the ones with much more powerful voices could/should have spoken out against all rules they feel are stupid/illogical PRIOR to the event, and NOT after an incident. These top players could have united well in advance and forced FIDE to reconsider/change/modify the rules PRIOR to the event. The problem is many top players simply do not care. They signed the legal contract or agreed to the FIDE rules to participate in the World Championships then complain about it when they do not get their ways.
- The interpretation of the rules (what is a trouser and/or jeans?) was erratic and inconsistent.
- Magnus could have reacted differently. But rightly or wrongly, this was the path he clearly chose, and I will not one to judge his decision. Only he can do that.
- Magnus could have appealed to the Appeals Committee. I was the Chairperson of the Appeals Committee during the last Chess Olympiad in Budapest a few months ago. Various serious incidents came up and we handled it professionally and quietly, while protecting Fair Play Rules as well as the integrity of the Chess Olympiad. FIDE supported our bold decisions based on common sense without prejudice to any party (players or FIDE).
- Magnus still could show up for round 10 today, and/or play in the Blitz Championship. But only he can make that decision.
The question is will the players, especially the top ones with powerful voices, stand up, unite and come up with revised rules for future World Championships/big events, or will the same history repeat itself like all other major incidents in the past?
Some believe all incidents are great because they generate big publicity and all publicity, negative/positive are good.

I have come to clarify a misconception which a section of my viewers are started having that through this song and press conference i had come to declare to the world that i will be the next Shaktimaan.
Totally wrong. Let me explain.
1- Firstly why should i say i will be the next Shaktimaan. I am already the Shaktimaan. There would be another Shaktimaan only when there is a Shaktimaan. And i am that Shaktimaan. Without me there can not be other Shaktimaan. Since as Shaktimaan I have to create the Legacy of Shaktimaan.
2- Secondly i have not come to prove or show that i am better than Ranveer singh or any one who will wear the mantle of Shaktimaan. Become the next Shaktimaan.
3- I came as older Shaktimaan to pass on a messages to today’s generation only because i felt older Shaktimaan will be in a better position to do that than the new one because the older Shaktimaan already has readymade audience for the last 27 years.
4- i came with a patriotic quiz song as older Shaktimaan because i can and everyone should clearly see that Darkness and Evil is prevailing over children of today. In Shaktimaan’s language it can be said -“Andhera kaayam ho raha hai. “
So the need of the hour is, this message should be urgently passed.
5- So rest assured new Shaktimaan will come. Who will he be. I can’t say. Because i even don’t know. Hunt is still on.
