@GriftReport I'm sure she says at one point "I'm actually an NHS worker" like resorting to the saintly hood of NHS employment would be enough for me to shut down that conversation.

Our geography and geology aren't that suitable. Not enough mountains or the right type of rocks. So if we want a sustainable, low carbon future, wind supported by batteries (if/when they can get scale) with a base load of gas until we have nuclear is the answer. Anything else

Energy in the UK is so simple. Solar is a waste of time as we are the dullest large country in the world. Wind is great as we are windy. But when it is windy we already get more energy than the grid can manage, so we don't need more. Hydro and geothermal are great, but

Anyone from a record label tell me what's the benefit of forcing a Youtube creator to remove 12 seconds of music from a video uploaded 15 years ago? How does that benefit you? People FIND your music this way!

@FuturistPartyGB Smug and divisive when his entire point is about inclusion. Totally undermines himself and plays right into the two tier arguments. If it looks like it's in sixth form and talks like it's in sixth form... Something something

No interest in the particular object level discussion here. I haven’t listened to the video. But can we all (both right and left) please dispense with “annoyed all the right people”. At best it is just so childish as a concept at worst it is a kind of gleeful vindictive tribal instinct.
Wes Streeting@wesstreeting

This speech has annoyed all the right people. So to wind them up further, this gay, bible-bashing Christian wishes all Muslims here and across our country, Ramadan Mubarak.

@redrumlisa They have ai scan CVs, some are going as far as first interviews conducted by AI which is just grim. Last round of job hunting I did, I didn't bother with cover letters. Left them all blank. They're a legacy requirement don't know why they're still a thing. No one reads them.

This is a great thread to show how terrible the jobs market is and how vapid & mediocre & out of touch Human Resource departments have become. The poster here doesnt realise how soul destroying it is to find a job now. The replies outline it. AI being used to screen CVs Ghost jobs everywhere Candidates applying for hundreds of jobs Knowing advertised jobs as process that are already gone Complicated & time consuming application processes & never getting feed back.
Kate Barker-Mawjee@KateBMwriting

I’m reviewing job applications and 90% of the cover letters are AI generated. They use identical phrases and have exactly the same structure and word count. Why do people do it?

@prestonjbyrne Using VPNs that they're actively talking about banning or at least heavily restricting access to business use. Whole things a farce. Overreach in every single sense.

I have read Ofcom's "provisional decision" in this case in full. The U.S. website geoblocked the UK. In response, Ofcom used VPNs to access the site, presumably masquerading as traffic abroad, and is going to use this as the jurisdictional hook for the Online Safety Act.
Owen Boswarva@owenboswarva

Ofcom has provisionally found the provider of a suicide discussion forum in breach of the Online Safety Act ofcom.org.uk/online-safety/… Ofcom and UK media aren't naming the forum, but it's US-based and has been geoblocking UK traffic since last year #openweb #techpolicy

@BenedictSpence How on earth do they tackle that? There's no soft approach I can see that will work. With no emotional response to educating and doing your best for your kid already evidenced. Maybe the equivalent of a parenting asbo and pay a fine directly to the school?

Hot Take: I don't want a realistic limited weapon carry in Grand Theft Auto VI. The 2022 leaks indicated that Rockstar Games was testing out this gameplay system, similar to Red Dead Redemption 2. I see how it would make the gameplay more strategic, as it would require the player to choose what kind of weapons to bring with him during a mission, but I think if Rockstar goes with the realism route, I believe it will be counter-intuitive. It's another task that you have to keep in mind every time you get out of your car, because if you forget to take the weapons with you, you're left only with a pistol. Taking an RPG with you would mean that it would slow you down significantly, or if you run out of ammo you would have to run back to your car just to change weapons. Unlike Red Dead Redemption 2 where your horse always follows you around, a car would not follow you. Even if Rockstar Games decides to implement this, they should find a good balance between realism and fun.

A few thoughts on this. 1. How is the government going to distinguish, in law, the difference between a zero-alcohol drink and a soft drink? If a non-alcoholic beer removes the word beer and calls itself a soda (or something), what is the government going to do about it? 2. I can find no evidence for the idea that these drinks are a "gateway" to alcohol for anyone. 3. The "gateway effect" is war on drugs rhetoric used to justify banning things for which a ban cannot be justified on its own terms (see also: 'vaping'). 4. Kids naturally dislike the taste of alcohol and have to get over that hurdle in order to enjoy the effects of alcohol. The idea that they would drink something they don't like the taste of without getting those effects is hard to believe. 5. The sale of alcohol to kids is already banned. If that ban isn't working, why would this ban work? 6. It's as if Rishi Sunak were still Prime Minister.
Politics UK@PolitlcsUK

🚨 NEW: The Government is considering making it illegal for 16 and 17 year olds to buy zero-alcohol drinks to prevent a "gateway" to alcohol [@Telegraph]

The olesexuals are going wild. Personally, I don't want to go back over old ground like this. He wasn't good enough then and isn't now. If it happens it has to be caretaker and stay a caretaker role. Full timer confirmed by April in by late May

🚨 Ole Gunnar Solskjær and Manchester United advance in positive talks over caretaker manager role. As revealed yesterday, Ole wants the job and he’s a serious candidate with talks well underway. No issues on contract lenght. Ole is ready to say YES. Up to #MUFC.
